Games with female leads

So, I've been looking at games recently, and it's rare, compared to the majority, that you actually come across a game where you can select a woman as the player you use - this is especially prevalent in first person shooters. I can understand the historical shooters, but ones based in the near future - and hell, even current day - almost never have a female character available to the player. So I was wondering if you lot could recommend games that star a woman, particularly first person shooters, that aren't Tomb Raider.

And considering how thoroughly unattractive the lead is, there shouldn't be any reason for you to think that they are using her for a sex symbol.

ONI was good, but it's old now. I don't even know what system it's for.

Note no one said they have to be attractive or a sex symbol. You do not need to be either to be a strong female lead :I

No I have and it is an awesome game, one of my favourite shooters, but that still does not mean that a strong female lead does not have to be a sex bomb (besides, no one lives forever was going for- and achieved- the whole sex symbol status that the bonds/other spy films of the 60's did).

ONI was indeed great, and the PC version just got some modding tools too. Hopefully they'll see some good use. ^.^

The only other two games that come to mind are Drakan: Order of the Flame and Unreal (where you could choose a female character). I never got to play Drakan, and Unreal was awful even back in the day.

I know there's one with some fairy that turns into a dragon or something weird like that. 'Twas one of the 360 launch titles I think.

Both are ****e compared to BG&E (but most games are anyways), but they have female leads.

Anyone else notice that although more games with female leads in them are coming out (imo), they always have her looking really slutty.

To prove my point:

Not particularly an FPS, but with some heavy elements of FPS (you shoot stuff) Mass Effect allows you to pick a male or female character. I've known (of) (alleged) women on a different forum related to NWN2 (I won't mention which one) who wouldn't even play a game unless it gave them the option of a female player-character.

Like... wtf. And I'm not just talking about new RPG games, I'm talking about ANY game. There are so many awesome games out there with male characters... PS:T, Monkey Island, Superfrog... that they are knowingly and ignorantly choosing to avoid playing a game just because the PC isn't designed with a pair of breasts.

I hate that sort of brane-dead ignorance. A good game is a good game regardless of gender, and being a whinger is hardly doing anything for gender equality in games.

Anyway, I'm not aware of any FPS other than TR that has female leads. If you want some good adventure games though, Syberia has a female leads, Broken Sword has you switching between male and female, and Zak McKracken allows you to switch between a male or several female characters.

Good luck finding FPSes that have female leads. Part of the reason why they use women as the PC in most games is to attract the attentions of the mass of male gamers with lots of exposed skin and bouncy boobs, both of which you won't see much of in an FPS.

Ah... She isn't avoiding playing those games, she just wants to find an FPS with a female lead.
