Gamers Manifesto

Favorite quote:

"Patents. Did you know there's a patent held by some microscopic software company on spherical camera controls in realtime 3D, and they're starting to level lawsuits against EVERYONE? Did you ever wonder what happened to force feedback, controllers that push your hands around so you can feel the action in the game as well as see it (we're talking real force feedback, not controllers that vibrate like pagers)? Somebody has a patent, that's what. Did you know you can't have mini-games during a loading screen because of patent law?"

What gets me is that there are a lot of people thinking this way, but they don't seem to deliver message strong enough to change things. Guess why... They are still buying the ****ty games they are criticizing! Stop buying that crap is only way to say "we are sick and tired of you manager suit-and-tie morons deciding what games we want to play".

I have done that. Warez is my way of saying how much I hate you Big Mean Game Companies.

i liked that manifesto very mutch. Great that someone has writen the things i/we have thougt of for some time.

THE VERY FIRST FU*KING PERSON TO EVER PUT A JUMPING PUZZLE IN A FIRST-FU*KING PERSON GAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED, TIED DOWN AND HAD HIS EARS FILLED WITH PISS.

Good article. Let's hope that we wont see any crates or jumping puzzles in future versions of M&B.

Yeah, that would suck. I like good graphics but to sacrifice good A.I. for fancy graphics is a lousy idea. I played Grand Theft Auto 3 for awhile and liked it but when they label stuff like that "mature" I laugh and think "Yup, you can't get more mature than that!"

And here's another tip: If you have a single level where the player's character is required to run toward the camera, send the ****er back for more programming because you're not done yet.

Am totally in agreement. I played Harry potter a while back, and there's a section where you have to run away from a troll chasing you, but the camera is looking back on you and the troll, and the controls are reversed because effectively you are going backwards relative to the camera.

But i had a brainwave. I switched the left and right controls, and Wolla! a section of game that was actually completable.
