Gamepad support

I recently bought a game pad for my compy to go along with Jade Empire and a few other games I have and I was thinking about how Mount and Blade battles could be controlled with one. One analog stick controls movement, the other controls your facing. One button to attack, another to block, select to bring up the backspace orders screen. There wouldn't be enough buttons for all the tactical commands, but I think there would be enough for toggles (R2 and L2 buttons to cycle between who you direct orders to) and the gamepad's D-pad and right-hand buttons could be used to give actual orders.

The game pad I have is built almost identically to a playstation controller, so that's what I'm visualizing though I'm sure it could translate to others as well.

I prefer mouse and keyboard myself, but controller support would be a nice extra.

Until official support arrives (if ever), try JoyToKey. Its an emulator of sorts that lets you associate controller inputs with keyboard keys and even mouse movement. It works with any Windows software. All you'd have to do is assign each button to a particular key, and then mess around with the custom controls in the game itself until you get a result you like. With a simple batch file you could even have the M&B icon start JoyToKey and M&B at the same time.
