Gamebreaking Bug

Hi M&B community,
I love this game and played it several days and hours, but now I have my first big problem with this game. Although M&B is imo almost bugfree, i have now a big bug which breaks me my game. My character is injured and I'm with my armee in my town. The enemy attacks my town and, cause my caracter is injured i have only the option "order your troops to attack". When I do this I loose the battle, cause I have much less troops than the enemy. So far everything is alright, but now the bug occurs:  Each round i give the order to attack I loose troops till I have 0, but the battle will not stop. The screen shows, you have 0 troops against x and when I order to attack, (logical) nobody looses units and so the game stucks. When I exit the game (with alt+f4) and reload it, it starts when the battle begins, so its impossible to end this.
I invested much time in this game and my progress is really advanced. Is there any possibility to save my game? Or have I to start a new one?

If at all possible wait for some time on the map until your healthy enough to go into battle. From there either die or defeat the remaining enemies. (cheat if you must) IF you die, and all of your troops die or KO then they should capture you and you should be able to go on with the game. There also should be a "Leave" or "Surrender" Option... But there isn't for you?

If the battle starts as soon as you load the game, keep pressing mouse1 (left mouse button) when it loads, this will pause the game. If you can control your character before the fight starts - run away, give in, die in battle, surrender - you decide. But this will move the game from the dead point.

There should be a file last_savegame_backup.sav which is a backup of the previous save, I think. Have you tried to rename that to sg01.sav for example and load it?

First of all, thank you for your answers.
@Tornkik95 and Shinigami: The 1st problem is that I'm in a city as defender, so I can't give up or leave. My only option is to order my troops to attack. And the 2nd problem is that the game saves exactly when the battle begins, so there is no possibility to avoid it.
@nightstormer: That is a very good idea, which would have worked, but unfortunatly I already started a new game, cause of testing and for all characters there is only 1 backup file  :(
