game will not start - mountblade.exe

Downloaded and installed. When I try to run this pops up. It does show as a process in the task bar.

mount&blade.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

M&B works on one of my desktop computers flawlessly. I get the above message with the other two computers. It also will not work on my friends computers. Same problem

It will not work on the oldest and newest of the PC's. It will work on the other one though. It is about 5 years old.

Is this the security protection problem that people are talking about? Out of all i've tested, it has worked on 1 in four computers. That is not a good ratio. All computers were well above the requirements

That is a very bad ratio ... and an uncommon one.

Are you using version 0.704 and are you using DirectX 9.0c? If so, I would re-install DirectX.

Upgraded to newest Direct X. It did not fix the problem on any of the computers.

I hope this issue can be addresssed. There are lots of people for whom this wont work. I paid for it already and would like to see it work

Any more suggestions? Im not sure what to do anymore. I heard that there is a compatibility issue between the game protection and computer antivirus/spyware protection. Would that cause the mount&blade.exe to fail?

Sorry for the late reply ... I've been away. :oops:

I can understand your frustration. I wish I knew of other suggestions to offer.

The standard uninstall, delete mount&blade folder, re-install the full latest version ... update video drivers and DirectX ...

Beyond that, I'm not sure what help I can offer at this point. Please hang in there and don't give up hope ...

It depends on the exact system and software.

Obvious things to check are that the drivers for the graphics and sound card are up to date. Also, try closing down anything else running before trying the game, it may be that something is conflicting with it.

Also, are you re-downloading the installer each time, or copying across from a disk\network?

It's possibly worth looking for a common difference between the computers it won't work on and the system it is fine with, especially background programs and common hardware (if any).
