i do belevie that things like tree and animals might be added, to make the planets more interesting.

But take an immense amount of system performance, especially when used in a planetwide scale on thousands of planets. On the other hand, it would explain the massive hardware requirements they posted on the website. I'm curious ...

Well, useing a LOD system, you'd only need to show 100 animals tops, and this would only be on the players computer. At least it's comeing in two years. starting from tommorow, i'm putting $5 a week into a box, so by the time it's released, i'll have enough for a real beast (by the standards of that time to)

Looks cool, thanks Randy. No really, THANKS ALOT FOR SHOWING ME A GREAT GAME I CAN'T PLAY YET!

I did find a link to another game, EV Nova that looked good but I tried it and it was just mediocre.

Don't count on it. Like I said, until last year, I was on a PII. I will probably have to get a desktop again at some point though.

it's just two years. just save up, say, 5AUD a week, and in two years, you'll be able to buy a dam good system!

thank the lord.

Or I could throw that money at something worth more to me. You have no idea how expensive cats are here. It's like there's some huge shortage or something. Wasn't the slogan: "We'll make more?"

I'll sell you ours.... (it's old though)

anyway, bump-dy bump-bump, the combat prototype version 1 has been released. Looking really, really good

(ps, the ship in the middle right of the pic, the really big one, is a battleship, one of the largest ships)

Yeah. if anyone was wondering, the full install for version 1.0 is near the bottom of the dedicated page.

Space based games don't usually demand much from a system. 99% of what your rendering is black
Don't usually demand much? You musta played some different space games than I have then.

What, you mean there are space based games better than Freespace?

It's not the space itself that causes a performance hit. It's all the frilly bits they tend to put on the spaceships that really kills the FPS rate (not mentioning X at all, no siree).

Yes, Freespace 2. :p
Which gets even betterererererer with the help of the Source Code Project.

TIE-fighter and X-wing: Alliance aren't far behind either, and Privateer, the Wing Commanders and I-War are quite memorable too. Also, Bridge Commander and Klingon Academy are sorta fun to play as well.

Too bad X2 and 3 are so lacking when it comes to story, dialogue and good missions.

And of course it's the spaceships and all the special effects and stuff, and not space itself, that causes the performance hit. Space games are hardly just about space after all, they're about h0t laser shootey action!

How long will the development last ? When are you planning to release it ?

The official release date is "when it's done". Realistically, expect the first playable version in two years (end 2007).

End 2007 hmm so they started it in 2005... HOW COME IWE NEVER HEARD OF IT!!!

Looks to good to be true. I have missed a good online space game.

Tried the combat proto... and. woah.

I just love how the ships momentum is conserved when say, flipping it around 180 degree's ect

Holly shi...

YEah, free download. Pity the server's down at the moment (eg, in the last hour)

Still, i love this proto. it takes, what, 2 minutes to load, and you can get into the action straight away, the credit system is good too

Does anyone else get these exception errors that CTD the game? I get one every 5 minutes.

homeworld? well, at least it's MY favourite.

game looks great. i wonder what kind of server can support a full scale persistent galaxy..

I wonder how big that galaxy actualy is, it take a long time to get a looong ways. And the action is in the one area...
