My game caused my pc to reboot when I pressed Alt+F4 sometime, and this is one of critcal bugs!

If any of you know any of good solutions to this problem, it will be greatly appericated.

I've had some conversations get stuck in a loop for no obvious reason after doing some editing in .702, and had to use Alt+F4 myself (Tab didn't help). Haven't had it crash my computer though.

EDIT: Well, since I've already got a post here, might as well just edit it. Heh.

I have now had the game give me a blue screen crash causing a system reboot. It was from a normal exit of the game though, not from using Alt-F4. Argh.

Ok, I've now had a blue screen crash on normal exit of the program 4 times. It doesn't happen every time (only 1 in every 3 or 4 exits for me), but since I've beem mod testing I've been running and exiting the program a fair bit.
Each time it causes a blue screen, the next time I run the game I see that all the options have been set to baseline. Everything option is disabled, and the sliders are all as far left (and therefore low) as they will go.
Easy to notice since the mouse sensitivity on the lowest setting makes it hellish work to even turn your character 90 degrees.

Mildly aggravating overall, to say the least. :???:

In case knowing my hardware might help, I'm running an Athlon XP 3000+ with a Geforce 5900 video card.

Then why would you alt+F4 out?

So I'd return to editor and keep tweaking my bloody roman mod, while testing the changes I have done... So that is why I kept having to Alt+F4 to exit game, tweak codes and using editor (unoffiical one) to edit something, and then start game while loading saved game to test weapons, troops, and do the same steps all over and over.

Dunno if these two problems are related.

Janus' BSOD error sounds as if there is either a problem in memory, or a problem writing to the disk. The fact that it is intermittent suggests that it may be a program interfering with the process.

The actual BSOD message may be useful, but it might be worth shutting down any non-essential programs your running. I also wonder if it may well be the editor itself causing it.

Haven't looked at the editor (unofficial or official) yet, but if its keeping a file open when M&B is trying to write to the file (i.e when closing) then its likely to cause problems.

If possible, it may be worth closing down the editor prior to testing the changes, and see if the problem persists.

I've been exclusively using the official Module Builder system. It doesn't directly interact with the files used by the game when editing, it only writes to them when you run the build batch file. So I don't see that as being a problem here.

Next time it crashes on me I'll try to make note of the error message. My LCD is dying though and shows a jittery fragmented screen at the resolution which the BSOD puts the system at, so dunno what I'll be able to read of it.

EDIT: Last time it crashed, it gave a Stop error at address 7f (I think) with the file splitter.sys indicated. I found that file and it is the "Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter".
In case my audio card might have something to do with the problem, I'm using an Audigy 2 Platinum.

EDIT 2: I thought about it, and I usually have WinAmp running in the background even when I'm running M&B... maybe they're not playing nice. Haven't had a similar problem with any other game, though.

EDIT 3: Haven't had it crash on exit so far as long as I make sure WinAmp is not open when I exit M&B. So that seems to be my issue. Not sure now what the culprit is (probably some weak spot in Creative's drivers), but at least I seem to have found a way to prevent the BSOD.

Yep, i also got blu screens when exiting the game normally... the only thing running is mIRC.. so perhaps... but now i got it even though m&b was the only running application.... kinda strange ... but on the other hand the blue screen reminds me to go to sleep:smile:

Ver. 0.704 has this bug too

some pointer: auto-save-exit after lev.6 (before buying of ser.num.) working proper. but after payment and activation exiting from game again reboot my poor athlon :???:

I, too suffer from the spontaneous reboot on exit about 1/4 of my sessions. Aside from zeroing all my options it sometimes corrupts my character file, usually setting all the appearance attributes to the lowest possible values (making my character a twin for Prescan). Sometimes all my inventory is deleted. In .704 I have had a few characters have their skills and attributes revert back to the level 0 set or have the whole skills portion of their character sheet disappear entirely (no column, no buttons, no way to allocate new skill points).

Tonight though I ran into something new. Restarting my game after a reset attack, I found my options and character face messed up like usual. But my first visit to town gave me a shock: there were no NPCs! All the areas of Rivacheg were deserted. I went to Curaw to see if it was an isolated problem, and found that town empty too. The reset has somehow made all the townsfolk in the game vanish. Oops.

May I request that in future versions all game files be closed before the game does whatever driver de-inits it needs to? If this error is with the audio or video drivers, maybe the savegames and settings can be protected from being corrupted.

My system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
geForce Ti 4600
512MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c
Realtek AC97 onboard audio

I need to start archiving my savegames.

I too am having the problem of spontaneous reboot on normal exit with v.704. I'm running no mods, nothing in the background. System specs:

P4 2 GHz, 1 GB ram, no video card, WinXP Home (so I don't get the BSOD).

It tends to corrupt my savegames (which also causes a spontaneous reboot), so that I had to make a workaround: create a new character and do nothing with it (to properly initialize things).

If its also setting the options etc to default afterwards, perhaps its a problem updating a file?

Not sure exactly what files M&B updates on exit, though I think Armagan mentioned them before. Options.dat?
Anyone want to rename the file and see if the problem still happens? IIRC It should generate a new options.dat file automatically...

i've had this problem, although when i quit the game (any way) half the time my computer will boot. i need a fix for this or i wont buy the game

Welcome to the forums, Rhino.

There is a new version of the game that has been released. Might I suggest you try it and see if it corrects your problem?

You can get the full set-up from my signature.

My .710 crashes on "Exit to Windows". It goes to the Microsoft crash report screen. Will you need the data from that report?
