Firstly, I'd like to say great mod. It's very fun to play and I've been hoping for a SoIF mod for warband for quite a while. You really have outdone yourself and I look forward to future releases.

I do have a couple of suggestions for some balance issues I've noticed while playing. As an aside, I've played mostly as the North so all of these things I've noticed deal with their troops.

Spearmen are absolutely terrible due to the fact that the only weapon they carry is an infantry spear. They do almost 0 damage at close range which wouldn't be a huge issue if you didn't have to progress through 2 ranks of them only having spears (3 if you go horseman). Add a hatchet, sword, or a knife at least to their inventory so they can swap weapons at close range and be somewhat useful. They are alright against cavalry simply because the cavalry are dumb and charge them, but even lower level troops with a mace or sword just decimate them. If I remember correctly, you said this is intended, but if so change the troop progression tree to choose close quarter infantry or spearman rather than being forced into spearmen.

Leveling troops as the North you get stuck with an army of dudes with nothing but long spears and they get wrecked 9 times out of 10. I remember during a siege assault we outnumbered the enemy around 7 to 1 but our entire force was destroyed because the spearmen cant do any damage at close range on top of the ladder.

Spearmen are a really cool addition and fun to see on the battlefield but they need a backup weapon to be useful. Levies and archers have backup weapons so there should be no reason why a spearman shouldn't as well.

The best fix is to add a short sword to their inventory when they reach footman rank. Then add not only the sword but also a round shield to the infantry rank. The same should apply to the horseman rank but rather than a round shield, give them a cavalry shield.

I also noticed the Northern troop tree branches after footman, but in actual troop progression it branches after infantry.

One other thing I've noticed is that when starting a new game for the North, the merchant who comes after you kill the attacker and who's in the tavern looks nothing like the merchant who issues the first quest.

I know it has already been mentioned, but player horses are way too susceptible to getting killed by spears. I understand that spears should be effective against cavalry but spears have almost made player horses useless. I think the damage should either be toned way down in general or maybe just greatly reduced for armored horses (if that's even possible).

Again, I really do love the game and appreciate the work you've done. I don't want to sound as if I'm telling you how to make your mod, I just saw a few imbalances and I don't like to complain about something without proposing a possible fix for it.

Announcement:

I'll be releasing version 0.2 on sunday.

Awesome! Can't wait
Do you have any forum or anything dedicated to this mod, seeing as you can't get a sub forum in here due to the rules?

Yeah, which is a part of native compilation used in Clash of Kings. It allows you to equip every individual troop yourself.

Sounds expensive.

Hehe true, but I believe that balances it out.

Can't wait to play this. I need a little rest from the buggy AD 1257 and buggy Brytenwalda, I want something more native like, yet fresh

Possibly. Anyway, do you have to equip every single troop in your party, and if he dies you loose the gear? In that case, I don't think I can be bothered! Equipping companions is good fun, but a party of 200 will be a bit much. If it's the case that you equip that particular 'troop tier', it could be good fun.

so since its being released on sunday that means you are going to start uploading today that way its up at 12am right? wink wink nudge nudge

You don't have to equip them, as for the losing gear I am not sure. Well, think of it this way. Would you share the loot and equip your merry bunch of 30 adventurers or personally equip a whole army?

It's neat fun to equip the levies and farmers with lowbie gear from the bandits they defeated.

I am very pleased to see this mod
Sadly there is a lack of asoiaf mods and games (good ones, so F of genesis), so this is highly appreciated!

I heard you say that 0.2 were to be released today, what exactly can we expect in the update?

Anyways, thanks for making this mod, it's splendid and hopefully it will improve even more

Really?
The only good mod i've found is westeros total war , and some old one for m&b vanilla that seems as dead as robert baratheon
