Game lag

Users who are viewing this thread

Its been a about a year since I dont play Europe 1200, last time I did it was in the original M&B, and I really enjoyed, it seems it has grown ever since that, and Its looking pretty good.

My concern is the amazing amount of lag on the campaign map, my computer has decent specs, and I run vanilla flawlessly.

My question is if there is a fix to that annoying lag, or else, how do you guys manage to play with it?

Thanks

There's really just two things that seem to be causing the lag, at least to my belief. One is the massive scale of the game that involves several hundreds of villages and NPCs, requiring the computer to calculate things like battle results or unit pathing; anything that has to do with math and numbers behind the scene. Obviously with so many things going on at once, it starts to add up and make it sluggish. The second is I guess unoptimized performance, though not like there's much that can be done. The mod makers has already been very conservative of not spamming trees everywhere to reflect the actual geography of medieval Europe.

I just wait it out, it tends to last only a few seconds of freezing. It does get annoying but there's not much I can do about it.

Hmm... My computer is average/strong, and I do not have any lagging at all on the campaign map.
I am playing on ''high'' graphics, and my AI calculation is balanced, which increaces the map aliveness.

my computer is Ultra Weak.
but i could play on the maps perfectly, but on the batlefields is a pain, and loading the things like conversations and goin to somewhere in settlements. so yh i cant play it really ,especially as i have only 9,5 Gb of maqximum space in hard drive

My PC has rather a poor performance, but I took advice of starting a game with auto-save turned OFF.
It really improved alot for me, as it appears that the auto-save requires quite some of your game performance.

Try it out, it might work for you too.

Auto-save?

Oh...

I see.  If doing that made the mod playable that'd be great.  I'll check it out.

Well it did speed things up but now every time it autosaves (leave camp, town, ect.) I have to wait five seconds.  Any way to turn off autosave?

Ah screw it.  This mod was broken a year ago and it's broken now.  There's a reason maps aren't this big, there aren't this many factions and it's because it can't work.

Well it works fine for others - a year ago and now. If the advices given here aren't of any help for you, you might be working with a prehistoric machine - which is fine! But please stop spamming. The mod works very well for me and my machine isn't very new.

If my four years old laptop, which runs with Windows Vista and wasn't exactly a top-quality machine when I bought it, can more or less handle it (not the most perfect gameplay experience, but at least it manages to make it work), then anything better than a toaster should also be able to.

So, just a piece of advice: before saying that a mod is broken because your computer apparently cannot handle it as well as you'd like, maybe you should consider the possibility that the problem lies precisely on your computer (or your unability to optimize it well).

my game seems to pause every 30 seconds or so for a second on the campaign map and no idea why as my computer can easily handle the game and i have plenty of disk space

Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2700K CPU @ 3.50GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570

running on windows 7

any help? as its rather anyoin the stuter

Hard Disk space isn't all that important, I keep my free space at 5-6 GB and the mod works fine, or as well as can expected from a 4 year old laptop. RAM memory is more important, I have 2GB and I wouldn't recommend trying to run the mod with less than that, I imagine it would be hell; vanilla would prly work well even with 1GB though.

I was thinking, could some of the problems come from the way you handled sea travel by changing one of the default terrain types? I'm thinking the game wasn't designed to work quite like that. Would be so cool, for several reasons, if the AI could be adapted to use the actual MB water terrain.

Ah, so I'm not the only one. I just installed this yesterday, and stopped playing within 15 minutes because of lag (to be honest I lost a battle, but that plus the lag = rage quit)

It seems to pause for 5-10 seconds, if not longer, whenever something happens ie someone declares war on someone, freezes and THEN the message comes up. Leaving towns/villages/castles likewise freezes up when done, could someone give me help with this? I've got a new laptop, with high end specs, doesn't make sense!! Thanks.

Any ideas?

Maybe you got 'greedy' because of the new laptop and tried to play with maxed settings?
Try lowering some of the graphic settings if you're having problems during battles and for problems on the map set AI calculations to minimum from the camp menu options.
Also Korinov mentioned just a few days ago that he's had some problems running it on his new laptop, probably because of the Windows 7 operating system.

Nope. I had the settings already on fairly low, lowered them right down and no difference, or at least not a noticable one. Still anywhere from 6-15 seconds pauses between leaving a city/interacting with someone, along with 5-12 second pauses out of nowhere in the campaign map, when someone declares war, etc. If it's because of windows 7 then that sucks...buy something new and suddenly it can't run the good stuff.

Anyways, 1257 AD it is for me. That game doesn't seem to lag much, if at all, on my PC. Just need to change the names into English and hopefully I'll get my Medieval fix!

Well, I play WB 1.153 on W7 without problems. The lags are very, very short when the game recalculates. I followed the solution about crashes though from the first post here (by the way suggested by 1257 team...)

If that doesn't help, I don't know what's wrong with your machine. Mine is fairly old and pimped from time to time. Make sure though you have enough RAM....!

Thanks. My laptop should be able to run it fine - it's got 8 GB of RAM!! That's why I'm so confused as to why it's lagging so much.

So do you recommend doing what it says with the save - copying it out of the folder and pasting it back in?
