Resolved Game crashes when controller/gamepad turns off

Summary: while using a mouse and keyboard attached to the Xbox the controller will turn off from inactivity which for some reason crashes the game and I return to the Xbox home screen
How to Reproduce: allow the controller to turn off automatically while a keyboard and mouse are attached in single player
