Gaining companions and army structure

So, this idea is entirely inspired by the mod "distinguished service" on nexus mods. In short, if your soldiers perform at a particular level (x) amount of kills on their own, then they have a chance to be noticed in battle and to become a companion.

This gives some alternatives to how to get companions rather than hanging out at a bar all of the time and, let's face it, you'd be closer with your brother in arms than a random stranger in the bar with a good story to tell.

Also, as I've read through some of the perks, it for me thinking to the army structure, perks and commands. We kind of have a way to assign troops to a "unit", by that I mean a formation. But we don't select a captain. The captain should give particular bonuses based on their attributes and should be entirely a selection choice.

In that same breath, I also am curious about the idea of "vetting". So, having different troop types at all tiers, but ultimately as the tiers go up, they become more exclusive. To the point where a soldier himself could be a captain, and this would make him almost a companion, or next in line to be a companion if one should die (another feature that should be turned on).

I know I'm putting 3 ideas out there, and a lot of sub ideas, but I'm thinking these would be a pretty nice transition to a complete product. Having 20 tier 5 of the same unit doesn't make sense as... People just don't typically accept a rank or position without following someone else and knowing their subordinates.

Anyway, sorry for the extras there, I hope it might help!
