FURIOUS: Why are my game saves auto-deleted???

So I had a sandbox game that had over 200 hours game play on the latest save plus four older ones.
I was testing some new mods for compatibility with a new disposable game. Which I planned to delete once my testing was finished.
When I went back to play my main game. ALL OF THE RECENT SAVES WERE GONE!!
The only one left was the oldest save. With about 15 hours on it!! That's as loss of 185+ hours of game play - GONE!!!!
What is going on?
Is anyone else aware of this??

With a bit of research it appears that Steam Cloud is eating saves. It will only allow one save from a campaign I am not currently saving. Anymore than one. And it automatically deletes all but the oldest.
And yet there are no setting to adjust this. The only way I can see is to manually save to PC. Turn cloud off completely.

I'm curious if these were auto/quicksaves or manual saves in save slots. If they were auto/quicksaves, it's possible there's a limit on those and auto/quicksaves from your test campaign were overwriting them as you were tinkering. I can't say for sure because I haven't actually run more than one campaign at a time myself.

If it was manual saves being deleted, I have no idea how that would actually happen and you should report it as a bug.

I think they were a mix of both. As I manually save before a big battle. And over the course of 200 hours I had a lot of those!

I have turned off Steam cloud sync. As my suspicion is that Steam limits saves as a standard practice. Could also be from the last update? As I was away for two weeks. And upon returning home and updating the game discovered the deletion then.

Steam cloud is infamous for deleting your saves randomly. Don't use it until they've patched it and improved it.
