Now that we have a map editor, the python scripts, the offical editor and edit mode for making scenes....i think its time someone started planning a full RPG Storylined mod...

You create your character and follow a progresses story, limited by the map (i.e mountains, rivers or the sea making a set path that you have to follow.)

We can fully exploit triggers and conversations, we can make characters, troops, heros, bandits. We have everything we need.

Imagine, creating your character and setting out to the nearest town. possibly your home town. With characters to speak to, people to set you quests etc etc...

From here you could leave and move onto the next town. possibly be ambused by some bandits, or find a roaming hero who wishes to join your party.

In this town you could upgrade your equiptment, talk to the locals, see if there is any heros or people willing to join your party at the local pub...you could see the local lord and see if he has any quests for you.

The World could look VERY nice. I have been messing with the map editor and you can create some nice stuff, from towns on the banks of rivers flowing down from snow topped mountains....to the hilly plains and massive forests....

The journey could take place from the sea to the desert and from there to the plains and forests....from there it could move up and into the snow covered mountains.

I mean, apart from you not being able to set triggers to change the world map we have everything we need to put together a storyline where what you do directly effects the world around you.

Of course, apart from using the scene, map and unoffical editor i dont really have the skills to pull off this kind of thing. Its really just a call out to see if anyone is willing to take the idea up.

It would be a huge amount of work but i really think if it was done it would be hugely worth it...

I am prepared to start putting together a nice map for the journey and storyline to go along... of course someone could draw me up a plan if they so wish...

I am also very willing to work on putting together the scenes needed once all the menus structures etc have been built for the towns, outposts and other places on the map.

well, i'm starting on my own mod, and i'm planning on having much of what you just said
i haven't even looked into all of the .py files yet, so i dont know exactly what is doable and what isn't, but i'm going to change pretty much everything that is changeable, and make a more fleshed out game

storylines - not necessarily one linear story that you are forced to follow, but i plan on having many factions with full histories and relationships with eachother, shown by interaction between them and yourself and eachother.
quests - no real plans yet, but most likely will have both random quests and sets of linear quest lines.
dynamic world - going to see if i can manage being able to change the world as you go, such as conquering cities and such, killing kings permanently.. etc.. not sure how much is actually possible yet. pretty sure i will be able to change your relationship with factions and faction' relationships with eachother to some extent. (forge alliances, ignite wars..)
cities - going to try to make actual scenes for each city, and flesh out the look inside buildings..
heroes - lots of em, with their own agendas, they wont just follow you faithfully like little lapdogs.. (well, not most of them anyway.. maybe i'll leave in marnid/borcha.. just for kicks..)

so far, all i've actually done is the map.. and a few small changes to the .py files

finished the map for the most part, gave the cities temporary names and locations (all blobbed into one little valley and named city A, city B, etc.), and changed a little flag, to allow you to recruit more people than your leadership skill allows (although you get lots of desertions every so often when you do so), and changed a couple troop templates (added peasant woman prisoners to river pirate parties = new source of troops)

working on making some last touches on the map, placing the cities in permanent locations, and brainstorming on factions/relationships of cities

once I finish positioning my cities, i'll post a screenshot in a new thread and ask for input on any ideas regarding storyline, naming, factions, etc..

ok look at kal online just type it on google and look at some screens its a mmrpg and its got miles and miles of map it could take days to get across the graphics suit a mount&blade style maybe modders could use this for inspiration
as i said again this game is huge with many different weapons items and terrain plus really kool structures

the main thing that is making modding tough for me is the lack of documentation on the .py files
but it looks like armagan plans on providing the documentation in its own forum, just have to wait for him to finish it up

Old-timey lurker here, just letting you know that I've started work on a storyline for M&B. I'll put it up in stages as I complete each part of the quest. Should have the first part completed next week, so you'll get to see the preliminary results first-hand!

Quintessentially,
Winter

IF someone does do an rpg storyline, please leave it openended enough, well, I know some parts might mean a dash for time across the map or something, but it's nice to take your time.

If you need any conceptual help, I'm with you. I have written the world and complete script for the Game Phönix, which is the official Game for the Minerva Project (www.r-pg.net), so I am of course best at creating lands, people etc. As I said, just let me know if I can be of service.

I'm also interested in what story it would take.

I'm drawing M&B graphic novel and also putting together the background settings for the novel story (for the preparation forthe second novel, hahaha) which I would post someday (quite soon, I think).

edit: quite soon is not novel, by the way. I've just finished sketch and all I have to do is 1) draw everything again 2) draw over it with pen 3) scan 4) putting words 5) finish.

By the way, graphic novel became over 170 pages. I first thought it'd be 40 pages...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see what story you're going to make for this world!

A fully fleshed out RPG story mod sounds like a great idea. While I have no modding skillz, I'll definitely play it if it's made!

I'm a writer by trade, so I've got the concept thing wired. When the time comes, I could use some playtesters -- that's going to be the annoying part. You have to start a new character with each update for the damned game to work properly. That's one thing I didn't consider when I mentioned posting it up in stages. It'll need a big disclaimer not to get too attached to your character until the finished build.

Either way, I'm certainly not opposed to input from other people, so if you think you can be useful in the creation of this thing, drop me a PM. Especially if you're wise in the ways of Armagan's nebulous code!

That's really good news to me. I'm very interested in what people might make a story out of M&B.

I'm not sure about making change makes save games incompatible.

I want to hear the outline of the story! How about posting some background settings?

Making save games incompatible? I'm not doing it on purpose, it's simply that M&B gets screwy about adding new NPCs in existing savegames. It might work with existing savegames, but I wouldn't want to try it.

To keep you guys updated, I've just finished the first portion of the big quest, so anyone who wants to playtest should PM me and I'll sign you up. If you do, you'll receive a copy as I complete each portion, and any input you care to give will be considered. And you get to see how the thing is shaping up.

Keep in mind, it'll be true to the spirit of M&B, so there will be no magic or non-humans featured in this quest. I don't believe you need them to make an exciting story. This is gonna be some serious medieval action.
