Frozen Winds

Indeed, the snow seems to be melting as if the sun is willing it to leave! A pond of fresh water forms, and our friends decide to drink some before heading over to something Pointy thought looked suspicious. What they uncover however neither of them likes. A frozen body, in it's hands clenched a pouch containing a knife, a cup and and some string. Is this to be considered an ill omen of what's to come, or a blessing?

Are his organs decomposed, or is their edible brain left? Keep his bones for marrow.

While breaking the bones, chip off large pieces to use as arrow heads, and use the sinew for bowstring.

Alternatively, they could not go through the lengthy process of trying to make sinew out of a human and just use the string provided. Although making a bow and arrow is stupid, as Mustang said earlier they should use the string to make a trap for rabbits.

Well, how about doing both, aight? Use the string for the rabbit traps, use the sinew for the bowstring. Don't have to limit yer options here, Ruth.  :???:

Time spent getting the materials for a bow is nowhere near worth it at this stage. Not to mention that without fletching the arrows wouldn't be accurate more than a few meters. Also, pine sucks for bows. Best off using bone fragments to make a spear out of Pointy's walking stick in case they come across a stream with some fish or something.

Rabbit traps is still the best choice currently.

Well to my understanding, sinew is made by leaving the tendons out in the sun. Doesn't seem too labor intensive, and they can just leave it to dry in the sun while they do other things. No time like the present?

Of course, could be wrong about how it's made, but eh.

It's not simply a matter of setting some tendons down in the sunlight, they would have to cut it out of the dead man which I doubt would help their morale. It would certainly take some time. Also, my other points about how inaccurate it would be etc still stand. You also forget the time it would take to carve the bowstave.

Well you're already cutting him open to chip off pieces of bone, might as well get out the tendons while you're at it.

Someone figure out how they're gonna light the wood...
We haven't lit it yet? ****.

Take a nice flexible branch, tie the two ends to each other with string and tighten it so it's shaped like a hacksaw. Then take two pieces of bark and a straight stick. Wrap the stick into the string, put one end of the stick on a piece of bark and hold the top with the other piece. Moving the string back and forth spins the stick, creating friction. Eventually the bark will begin to smoke, when it does pick the coal out of the bark and place it in a pile of kindling (wood shavings or something equally flammable) and blow on it until it catches fire.

The body as it is, is frozen solid and does not seem to have decomposed much at all.

Crafting a bow from human sinew is a skill our little friends do not master, and frozen as it is, cutting it open for any other resource will have to wait a while.

Roundy decides to take the pouch containing the gear. Using the string and some sticks and branches, Pointy and Roundy set up a two traps around the den. Whether it is actually inhabitated by animals or not they don't know, but it might be worth a shot.

That was the last one for tonight, it's getting pretty late here and I have work again tomorrow! Hope you enjoyed it, because I sure did. Don't flood the thread with thousands of suggestions, because I can only make our buddies do so much in a single turn!

get them to gather the grass. If it's good, tough stuff, they can use it to make rope. also, check the bushes.
