If we see a question over and over we'll add it to this list.  If you ask a question that is answered here we will lock your thread and all point and laugh at you.

How do I install this mod?
First, check this thread: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,49800.0.html
Download the base module in the first link.  Then, if the patch listed below it has a higher version number, download that as well.  Next, you need something that can handle .rar files.  There are two options listed just below the patch link: WinRAR and 7zip.  Once you have the base module and the most recent patch (you don't need all the previous patches, only the most recent.) open the base module rar (or zip) file.  You should see a Native Expansion directory as the first thing in the file.  Drag and drop that Native Expansion directory to your C:\Program Files\Mount&Blade\Modules\ directory (or where ever you installed the game.)  Next, if there is a patch, open it.  Again, you should see a Native Expansion directory inside the file.  Drag and drop that directory to the Modules directory again.  You should see warnings about files with the same name.  Choose to overwrite them all.  Presto, you should have the installed and patched Native Expansion installed.  When you start Mount&Blade and choose Native Expansion from the drop down make sure the image says you are using the same version as the most recent patch.  If not, something went wrong.  Try it again.

Why do I get an error message about missing a resource file, texture, or .brf when I try to start the game?
Check the known bugs thread first: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,57896.0.html
If this problem is not listed there, then you probably have not installed the expansion correctly.  See the above question for how to do that.

Why do I not see the features listed in the information thread in my game?
You are either not running the Native Expansion mod (make sure it's selected from the drop down when you start the game) or you have not installed the most recent patch.  See the first question for info on how to do that.

How do I recruit lords to my kingdom?
There are three ways to do this.  The first is to try to bribe a lord that does not currently own any land with a castle or town that you control.  If they like you and you aren't at war with their faction they'll accept and join your kingdom.  The second is to defeat a faction and wait.  The remaining uncaptured lords will randomly pick new factions to join over time, and some might choose to join yours.  The third, and final method, is to talk to a lord of a defeated faction in a dungeon that you own.  You will have the option of offering them freedom if they join you.  Based on your persuasion skill and how much they like (or dislike) you they will accept or refuse.  Monarchs will never join your kingdom.

Why do my lords and companion raiding parties refuse to follow me or do what I say?
This is a problem you run into even when you're marshal of another faction.  They all have their own agendas to take care of.  If they think what they need to do is more important they'll refuse to do what you ask.  Typically if they have a lot of troops and have been resting in a castle or town for a few days they'll be more inclined to follow you, but it's not guaranteed.  Just wait and try again later.

Do towns/castles/raiding parties/lords really recruit troops when they belong to the player?
Yes.  Given time.  Once per week towns and castles have their prosperity changed and they earn money based on that.  Once per day there is a random chance they will spend their money on new troops and train up old ones.  The amount of money they get depends on their prosperity and the prosperity of surrounding villages.  This means towns and castles with poor villages will not get very many troops, so it important to take care of your villagers.  Sieging, looting, and having land change hands through combat will all drastically lower the prosperity of the affected property.  And finally, if a town or castle is besieged it will not be able to recruit or train new troops until the siege is lifted.

Why do I sometimes get script errors in large battles with battlesizer turned up?
The game is interrupt driven.  This means two armies standing far apart will require fewer resources than two armies engaged in a giant dog pile in the middle of the map.  You can either turn down the number of troops in battlesizer, or from the camp menu turn off the spear wall and/or shield bash systems, which should free up some of the cpu time.

Why does the game seem to stutter in some terrain combats, but not others?
We don't know the exact cause of this, but it shows up in other mods and sometimes even in Native.  Try setting the number of rag dolls to 10 if you have it set to unlimited in the options menu.  If that doesn't work, then we have no solution at the moment.

Is this mod compatible with any other mods or tweaks?
There are quite a few it is compatible with.  Ironmann created a short list that were compatible in the past: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,51705.0.html
Some are probably still compatible, some might not be.  Given how things change, all I can say is try them and see.  Make a backup first, in case they don't work.
Note: as of v585, the Calradia Map refinement is incompatible, but to make it compatible just compare parties.txt and copy the extra lines at the end of the NE one into the map refinement one, and change the count at the top.

Why are bows so inaccurate?
To balance their increased damage and attempt to be slightly more realistic.  If you want accuracy, find an ivory bow, use crossbows, or use the item editor and change their accuracy back yourself.

Why can I not use shield bash or spear wall?  I try and nothing seems to happen.
First, make sure you didn't turn them off in the game settings menu (found while camping, and they are on by default.)  You can only brace spears in field combat, and you can only shield bash in sieges and field combat.  They do not work in tournaments or practice fields.

Is the arbalest supposed to make a gunshot sound and puff of smoke?
At the moment, yes it is.  It might get changed in the future, but for now it's a good indicator of when some of the hardest hitting ranged weapons are on the field.

This mod is too difficult! How do I start out successfully?
It's meant to be difficult. There are many starting strategies listed in the forum, which can be found by searching. However, strategies that have worked for people include a) level up in the arena, b) do some quests, and for a quick-start, c) hire some mercenaries (ideally horsemen) and lay waste to some bandits

Why are DKs so difficult/How do I fight DKs?

They're supposed to be difficult. There are lots of threads on this. Search for them.

Wah! Game crashes when I try to recruit prisoners!

You have a corrupt download of Mount & Blade

Read the following thread: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,86010.0.html

Important information starts with Merc's post here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,86010.msg2222793.html#msg2222793

What are the unique items/ where do I find unique items?

Find them yourself, that's the fun of it. Search the forum if you're too soft/lazy.

I want to do the Claimant quest

You can't any more.

Ack! Long term wounding is driving me up the ****ing wall.

You can turn off the long term wounding feature in the Camp menu. Click on 'Camp' on the world map screen. Then pick the 'change game settings' option.

Can I make the Dark Knights attack more than once per game?

No. Once is enough for most people.

When do the Dark Knights attack?

Default is after 75 days. You can set this to a different time (or set it to never) in the Camp menu. Click on 'Camp' on the world map screen. Then pick the 'change game settings' option.

WTF dude, Alyssa hangs around picking up chicks in a bar, but she's a chick! What gives?

It's cool. Just roll with it.

Is Native Expansion available for Warband?

Not yet. We're working on v586 for M&B right now and will likely port it when that work completes.

All of the answers here are out of date and they get asked on the forum anyway.  So this topic might resurface after a better one is written, but until then away with it.
