Freelancer Questions

Users who are viewing this thread

I tried doing a search but I gave up after I trawled through a few topics and saw that I was reading one form May last year.

Here's my understanding of Freelancer: You essentially are a soldier in the Lord's army. You level up, get the equipment, get paid, get food. But you have to give the equipment back when you leave. BUT you can 'loot' off the battlefield.

My understanding (which may be wrong) is that you can actually take weapons etc off the battlefield and somehow keep them, rather than a random generating loot menu which is what you usually get. The reason I think this is that I read somewhere the only way to get an elephant is to  loot it off a slaver, and it was a freelance themed topic.

Have I just understood wrong, or can you actually see that the I7 infantry has died and pick up weapon "Epic Blade" and keep it?

EDIT: Also freelance related:  My lord lost the battle and I was captured then I managed to escape. But I appear not to be in his army anymore (as I can enlist with other Swadian Lords), but I seem to have the equipment still:
-do my relations stay at -ve with other factions? [And is there any way to view your personal relations with other factions?]
-can I keep this equipment without my old Lord getting angry?

Battlefield looting was disabled in Floris' freelancer (and replaced withe post combat loot screen you're seeing) due to no good way of preventing exploitation.  You could easily duplicate items with the other system.  Also you were limited to only looting shields, ammunition and weapons while the newer system allows looting horses & armor as well.

EDIT: Also freelance related: How does sovereign relations work? My lord lost the battle and I was captured then I managed to escape. But I appear not to be in his army anymore (as I can enlist with othetr Swadian Lords), do my relations stay at -ve? [And is there any way to view your personal relations with other factions?]
The sovereign relations report shows your personal relations with each faction in the left most column.  As to your relation being restored after escaping capture I am not entirely sure off hand.

Thanks very much. I understand the exploitation problem but is there any way to re-enable it? It's more for later game use. I just find it a nuisance when I have to travel across an entire Kingdom to find a particular blade I want .

Hi, I didn't want to make another thread about Freelancer since this topic is about it. Will Floris add the new version of Freelancer which is 1.5 in the near future?

The Freelancer that is in Floris is as up-to-date as the Freelancer released as a stand-alone 1.5
The bugfixes/changes that have been in the last couple releases of Freelancer (1.4-1.5) are all from problems I fixed during Floris 2.5 beta testing.

No, the code is totally out at present. And, honestly, I haven't any interest in re-introducing a bugged feature. You could use the dev kit and the older version of Freelancer's source to add it back and recompile, of course.

I see. Thanks. Let me take this opportunity to thank those who are involve in the maintenance of Floris Mod Pack. I'm amazed how well is working so far. Here I'm 4 days of not only playing M&B but also of knowing about this game(thanks to the founder of Nexus site who currently has a new section for M&B mods)

I'm an Elder Scrolls fan but M&B is light years ahead in terms of gameplay and features. Keep up the good work!

As far as my experiance goes, if you are captured while a member of a lords army, then escape, it is the same as leaving that lord, relations get set back to basic, and you are a free agent, and the equipment from your old lord becomes your own, so if you joined up again, you would recieve a second set, all in all a win-win situation, apart from the whole defeat thing, and losing any accumulated exp towards a new rank, and therefore new equipment, but hey, swings and roundabouts.

Here's another query about the Freelancer extension: I was in the NPC's King Harlus' army as a soldier and I had max NPC AI settings activated. The battle begins, the NPC's armys get into formation and distance themselves in archery range from each other, then they stay like that I guess for five or six minutes, as a stalemate, unable to do any damage to each other because of the maps terrain. Then finally they attacked. That is boring. LOL. Does Native AI work that way? I hadn't tested it. I think it just charges them together. But I would like a middle-ground between Native AI's kill-kill-kill mechanic and Native AI/Formations, Formations AI's sit still for six minutes and wait then attack mechanic. Something quick and fun.

Any supposings?

I've mine in average difficulty and in the 30 battles so far I've seen only twice the enemy's and my Lord's army do some kind of "stalemate" formation. The stalemate only lasted for 1 minute and I thought that was very cool because it looks like if both were sizing each other up and not coming, as usual, droves after  droves towards you. Even though in your case six minutes may seem long, it actually is realistic since in real life armies often don't just come attacking you without a thought.

Native AI is set up so that, if there is AI on both sides, only one can choose to "hold position" as its strategy. If you experience both sides holding position and nothing really happening with Native AI, that's a bug and I'd like to know about it.

Formations AI does not have the "if the other is holding, don't hold" caveat, as it wasn't made with AI vs AI in mind (and a special Freelancer-exception was not added). Changing this for a better enlisted experience is on the top features 'to-do' list for me.

You might get OK results with the Native AI with formations--troops will stick together more (as they will be in formations, rather than 1 long line) but the only 1 side holding position bit should be in there. Though, like Native AI, it'll most often be an all-out-charge anyway.
