Free look in first person

When in first person mode it is no longer possible to use free look as it was in Warband. When you press the ` key (above tab) you should be able to look around freely without moving your characters body and shield. Currently it works in 3rd person view but not first person. This means if you want to look around in first person you have to fully move your body including your shield which leaves your self unprotected from archers.

Is there anyway to enable free look in first person?

It is so that you can look around yourself without having to move your shield just by turning your head.

Maybe we shouldn't be able to turn 180°, but at least a few dozen degrees of first person freelook would be nice.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Many fps games has well working free look features, for example Rust where it's mandatory to use free look while traveling.
