Free-form Games: Your Recommendations

Users who are viewing this thread

I'm in the mood for an open-ended game with some role-playing similar to our beloved Mount & Blade. Some games of this type that I already have are:

Sid Meier's Pirates!
Pirates of the Caribbean (fully modded with Build 12.1)
GTA: San Andreas

One other I might get is Space Rangers 2, but all of this share a similar concept: play the game with your own goals as well as completing some other bigger overall goal if you like.

So, anyone have any suggestions for me? Current games preferably. Morrowind and NWN are not exactly what I mean - but I'm willing to entertain any ideas.

Ahem... *bump*

For Privateer see this. Seriously there is no better example of freeform gameplay and it has a lot common with M&B.

...

Only it is a space simulator.

ONLY 3 games :? i've got lots of games, both in pc and ps2.you should try hearts of iron2

Fallout II is kind of open-ended.

Well yes there are "limited" quests and a main storyline.. But you can keep playing, running around for random encounters and going for (endless) molerat fights or caravan drives.

And there are so many quests that you cant even have them all if you play just once. You have to play several times and make several charas to have them all..

is it rpg?i mean fallout 2.fallout is one of the games i haven't played(it is hard to find)

You could try URW: The Unreal World or something like that, bit odd, old graphics but its interesting. From somewhere in Scandinavia.

Sea Dogs (The prequel) is better than PotC.

I-War 2, though its getting on a bit. Not very RPG'y.

Any of the Elite games, first one's freeware, though there are some remakes about. Not sure about the others, they may be *ahem* abandonware.

X2 - Freeform but no real RPG elements.
X3 - Not out yet so I can't say.

I can't think of any more right now, let me think.
