So... I have this really annoying problem with FPS. Every 5-10 sec it goes down to about 60% of normal and my screen lags for a second, which, needless to say, pisses me off. This happens both on the map screen and in battle but of course it only matters in the battle, where this could mean the difference between victory and defeat. I'm pretty sure that this isn't limited to just M&B, but I haven't played anything else much lately, and this is a game where stuff like that can really ruin it.

I've tried many different things, such as doing the stuff that armagan posted about improving performance, and while my overall FPS has gone up a bit, the "spiking" stays, no matter what. I'm really confused as to what's the source of the problem, as I'm not really that good with computers. So to recap: my FPS is fine and playable for 5 sec and then I get the "spike", screen lags for a sec and the whole cycle starts all over. Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of this crap?

I'm using Windows XP
3000 Mhz
2048 Mt
Radeon 9600

Sounds like somethings eating up your cpu cycles. Make sure no other programs are running. I'm guessing you've got a decent amount of ram right?

Just a wild shot in the dark, but try running a spyware/adware checker.

I haven't used Xp in a while, but I think you can ctrl-alt-del and bring up your task manager. Check out what processess are running. See if any of them are spiking. If Xp's thing is like 2000s you can click "view" then "select column" and add columns for data like cpu usage, memory usage, i/o reads, etc.

Can't see any spiking really. I can "set a priority" on different processes, 6 dif options. I changed M&B's from normal to big... let's see if that works then.

I noticed something else when using task manager tho, under "performance", there is spiking... processor usage (I think that's what it's called), is going from 0-2% to 5-8% all the time.

Fun fun.

Lol what a helpfull guy....

Try doing a refortmat...

Lol joking

Have you tryed pressing Alt+Enter twice?

Try going to processes (if you havn't) and look at the mem usage and cpu usage of each program

Normally , it the thing with the highest usage (with program's closed) is
System idle Process , which tends to be like 97-99 Cpu , yet 28k mem usage.

Try running Checkdisc

Try getting driver updates

Try another game , see if it's Game or computer specific.

What does Alt+Enter do? All I get is this menu for the windows start thingie... or however it should be spelled

Yes, system idle proess is doing that with 16kt

Checkdisk - Never even heard of it before, did it now ... and it just closed itself? What was that supposed to do?

I have updated my graphix card

I'm 95% sure that it's not limited to M&B

EDIT - I'm not entirely certain yet but I may have solved the issue... I just opened my comp and put a fan blowing in there... so far so good

Oh well overheating would definatly cause that.
Checkdisc check's all your drive's for errors (depend's if you have windows or not)
Hold Alt and press Enter twice , if that does nothing , try Alt + Enter (release enter) then press it again (all the time holding Alt)

if nothing that has been posted has helped yet...then you may need a new cpu or video card...i am having the same probs as you in other games but i know the cpu is dieing. I am a computer techie by trade and that's my opinion, but i cant guarantee it without running some diag software on it or seeing it myself(then i'd be able to tell you want type of slow down it is).

Have you re-installed or updated your video drivers lately?, that might help.

also if checkdisk is killing itself you might have some corrupt system files, in that case you will have to re-install windows. See if you can delete the windows folder and install it again, that way you dont have to format and lose all your cool stuff but you will still have to re-install drivers and proggies(unlike linux that comes with drivers and proggies already with it).

How much ram you got, if it's 256MB or less WTF YOU RUNNING XP FOR hehe  . Make sure that you have 512MB or 1024MB. damn i hate Xp's resource managment, gimme linux any day.

Hope you find the prob and get it fixed easily.
