Forum Problem

I've been having some weird problems with the forum lately. One of 'em is about the "new replies" red ball icon.

I'll give  a scenario:
I browse to the Anachronist's Guild and I see new replies in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd topic.
I click the first topic and read it.
I browse back to AG.
I find that the  2nd and 3rd topics have lost the new replies icon.

It gets problematic when I'm skipping topics, making it hard for me to know If I really read a topic or not.

2nd Problem:
I've been experiencing more time outs when posting a reply/post.

3rd Problem
The latest post is displayed on the extreme right of the page, right?
Sometimes when I click on it, it doesn't lead me to the most recent reply. Usually, it leads me to a post on the second to the last page of the topic.

I haven't noticed any of these problems until I updated to the latest version of Firefox, if that matters.

1. So you're seeing the "New" indicator for topics, not visiting said topics, and later seeing that the "New" indicator is gone for them? Anyone else had that happen? It's normal for something like that to happen with boards (they're marked as new only based on new posts since your last visit to them or a subforum of them), but it should not happen with topics.

2. What message do you see? A standard browser timeout message, a short two-line plain text message in the middle of the browser window, or what?

3. By "latest post", do you mean when viewing a list of boards (like on the main index) or when viewing a list of topics (like within a board)? If it's the first of those, that's normal; it takes you to the first post in that topic which is new to you.

Yes. I'm positive they're topics.

I believe its the two line text in the middle of the window. The post I made is posted but it times out.

Its when I'm viewing the index. It doesn't happen often. Maybe 2/5 times.

Hmm. Has anybody else had this happen?

If so, that indeed sounds like a timeout on the server side. Is there a specific time of day it happens, or any other pattern to it?

Then as I said, that sounds normal. It's supposed to take you to the first new (to you) post in the thread, not to the most recent post.

Another question in regards to 1 & 2, what timeframe are we talking about here? Past day or two? A week? A month?

Nothing I've noticed. I had it occur in the morning, afternoon and evening(not on the same day though)

Ah, that explains things. I think its about a month or less. It started(or at least I first noticed it) after I downloaded the newest version of Firefox

I've also been timing out when replying - I get a message about how I haven't filled out a subject or a body, and it thinks I'm trying to start a new topic.

When I get a timeout it's usually a five minute or so burst, accompanied by general slow performance on the board. It's not the actual board itself though; if I post something during it it does get entered (generally I get the "resource is unavailable" redirect, hit back, resubmit and get the "you have already posted this" page).

Which suggests to me it's bandwidth. Given it only lasts five minutes or so I suspect it's probably just Googlebot trying to suck our brain dry.

Hmm, I've got a theory about my first problem. I remember installing a bucket-load of add-ons for Firefox after I downloaded the 3.5 release. One of 'em is Interclue(http://interclue.com/index.html). It previews pages when you hover the cursor over the link. It also says that viewing a clue is almost equivalent to clicking the link so that may explain why the markers disappear.

Yeah, that would do it.
