Forum Feedback and Suggestions (NOT Game Feedback)

Users who are viewing this thread

You can still edit your own old posts by yourself. Beside the suggestion thread all other threads are owned by you yourself. So I don't see an issue here which should hinder you at updating them. If you could please elaborate on that.

The permission has not been redacted based on your own activity alone but also on the general activity on the subboards. You don't need to be able to moderate the posts of users within the subboard when there is rarely any activity anyway. The few cases which might come up can be reported and will be handled by the respective subforum moderator, in your case by me.
We did this at the other subboards too, for example at the modding section alone more than 170 non-moderator subboard owners got their moderator rights redacted out of the same reasons.
I can't edit the pinned topics at the top, like the main download or strategy guide threads.

Lately, sometimes the notification alert is not popping when there are unread messages (the red notification with a number on top of the notification bell). Not sure what is going on.

Lately, sometimes the notification alert is not popping when there are unread messages (the red notification with a number on top of the notification bell). Not sure what is going on.
In my experience that happens when you get a notification once and don't click on it since the system then assumes that you don't want any further messages of this thread anymore. Or does this also happen at threads which you click and read at every notification?

I mean, I got now a notification on the bell that you gave a response to me. Now two different things can happen:
  1. I click on the bell and then on the thread at which I got a response -> The forum software will continue to notify me about this thread in the future.
  2. I click on the bell but I don't click on the thread (no matter if I want to read it later or to ignore it) -> The forum software thinks I want to ignore this thread and does not give me anylonger any notifications on the bell for it.
Most times it happens at the login since you get the most notifications there. If you don't click on every single one of them (I open new tabs with each one), the forum software sets that thread on ignore for you. That's what I assume that happens.

I see. Now I got the notification but when I login and without any iteration I don't see the new alerts of threads. Then I click on the bell and I have some unread messages.
Edit: Again, I logged in and the notification popped for like 0.5 sec. and then disappeared.

For some reason Vimeo links (embeds) have stopped to be supported even though they are listed as approved. I had to paste a plain URL and I must add that I had had no problem with Vimeo links prior to the latest XenForo update.

Approved sites: You may insert media from these sources

I checked your post history and see this Vimeo URL:
https://vimeo.com/626472445/016ba4ae7b
I'm not that familiar with Vimeo, rarely even seen videos from it, but I checked their video listings and the videos listed there all seem to be formatted like this, without the extra bit at the end:
https://vimeo.com/605584471
I tried that video link and it embedded fine.

I tried trimming your video link down like that, but it just shows "video not found". I'm guessing that bit at the end is a key, and access to this particular video is restricted to those who have that key on the end?

If that's the case, I can at least report it to the XenForo devs to fix their Vimeo embed code to support those restricted access (or whatever they're called) video URLs.

We can't copy paste images into the text field when posting replies on the forum. Most other web applications allow that out of the box these days. Can we have it?

The problem here is that the forum has no (official) image server to host your copy-pasted memes and screenshots.
Should it have one or it's not worth the hassle and cost?
Do we want forum users to unload their clipboards freely all over the forum? It is a road to ruin.

It's not a road to ruin, it's a useful tool that we use daily in most web applications. Storage is cheap, TaleWorlds are most likely already using some provider, and an AWS plugin exists for almost every forum software. The bandwidth it allows in sharing things like screenshots, memes, suggestions and such outweighs the risk that users might abuse it. Not having this feature in something as media-heavy as a videogame forum really is shooting yourself in the foot. There is likely a lot of awesome stuff people just don't post because they can't just paste it

TW forum has an unofficial image hosting website (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?threads/twim-twf-exclusive-image-uploading-site.210157/), but it does not support image hosting on its own even though XenForo allows it; I have seen many other XenForo forums which supported image hosting, so it is up to TW forum administrators to decide. I disagree that it may be pernicious to allow people to paste pictures on here, but it for sure would have consequences such as increased costs for storage. After all, people now are allowed to upload pictures somewhere else and embed them here and the place is clean; it just is more of a hassle than if everyone was able to directly send pictures on TW forum.

Yes, you are right with ["vimeo(dot)com/(...)/(...)"] the green part being a video's numeric identifier and the purple part being its alphanumeric access key. The thing is that something must have happened to XenForo with its latest update as I had been able to embed restricted videos just fine before it. Now it is not possible.

For instance here is my post from July 20th, 2021: https://forums.taleworlds.com/index...pansion-michael-the-brave.445104/post-9723723. It has a video which still is displayed error-free and - upon clicking on it - redirects to the site, regardless of its restricted status: https://vimeo.com/576927599/97a73bb97b. It is a proof that something has happened to XenForo itself.

Interesting. There is actually something different between the videos.
The one you linked just now works in a player embed without a key, so it doesn't actually need it in order to work, example:
https://player.vimeo.com/video/576927599
Where the one you more recently linked does not work without a key, instead saying "video not found":
https://player.vimeo.com/video/626472445
But with the key specified in the way they do it in the embed sharing code, it does work:
https://player.vimeo.com/video/626472445?h=016ba4ae7b

Whatever the case, those type of Vimeo URLs should be supported by XenForo, so I'll report it to them.

Thanks for your investigation. There indeed is something wrong with XenForo even though it appears also to be something with Vimeo as well.

Our Groups section is now updated with a few new things, provided by the addon we use for it (Social Groups).
  1. Within groups you're a member of, at the top is a "Notifications" button to determine if you receive an alert and/or email when a new event or newsfeed post is added to the group.
  2. Group admins can now lift group bans which they've issued. Previously the person had to be removed from the group and invited back to clear a group ban.
  3. Our Global Moderators can now manage group members of all groups in rare instances where that is needed, including promoting/demoting group admins. This capability will only be used in special cases, such as a group for a mod's development where the original admin / mod author is unresponsive and someone else is taking over the mod.
  4. In your profile's privacy options, you can now set who can see the list of groups you are in, when they view your profile.
  5. The number of attendees of an event can now be limited.

Any chance the notifications in groups could be disabled by default? Or at least an window is given to ask if you want them to be enabled or not? It's just a little bit irritating joining a group then receiving 10 emails in an hour because I forgot to disable the notifications.

It's not currently possible, but I'll put in a request with the addon author.
