This thread only applies to these two weapons when fighting on foot. I assume you have have proficiencies with 2h and polearms so speed and damage isn't a factor. Also, this is for fighting more than 1 opponent simultaneously.

Awpike: Only upper swing and thrust. It's easier for the opponent to block your attacks but you have extra range. At close combat your range backfires, causing your damage to decrease, but if you run backwards while attacking you do hit your opponent while maintaining distance. Appearance is somewhat amazon-warrior like.

Sword of War: Side swings seem to be easy to run around the opponents and slowly cut down the size. More attack types for feint attacks and less negative effects caused by close range combat. If two opponents have similar proficiencies and agility then Sword of War gives minor speed advantage. Slightly more asthetically pleasing due to 'royal' look.

Which weapon do you think is superior and prefer using on foot, whether against a single foe or multiple opponents?

When on foot I deffinitely prefer a side swinging weapon like the sword of war since you don't need very good aim to hit your target, infact your target doesn't even need to be on your screen and you can still take them down lol. The only advantage I like with a thrusting weapon is that it makes it easier in those situations where you have multiple foes in front of you and the one that is attempting to swing at you is being shielded by the two on either side so you can't hit him with a side swing. But in these situations if using a side swinging weapon then I try to just move around them to either side so that only one of them is in the front while the other two are slightly behind him allowing me to have a shot at that guy when hes not blocking without worrying about being hit by one of the other guys.

With Sword of War I tend to block the first attack then kill the opponent using my speed, if I'm up against someone using a longer reach weapon.

For Awlpike I normally get the first hit without needing to block. I just run through the opponent, killing him in 1 hit.

I dance with the sword; being the longest 2h in the game and with pretty decent speed and damage, I just reap my enemies like wheat while dancing around and inbetween them  don't use other polearms but iron staff.

I should point out that it's difficult to pierce attack with Sword of War while moving at fast pace. Most of the time I seem to end up doing the upper swing instead of thrust. But for Awlpike if I try to side swing it automatically does thrust attack, so you get to use the piercing attack easily to bypass shields and armor.

Awlpike also gives advantage against mounted opponents and in sieges where the Sword of War can't get a long enough reach cause your allies are in the way.

The main thing I dislike about Sword of War is how difficult it is to use thrusting attack while moving up/downhill or when running around a horde.

Awlpike. It's great against mounted opponents, and despite being less than ideal for very close work it is effective against infantry. It's so powerful and not too long so that infantry can usually be dispatched in a couple of strikes.

Awlpike - Like all polearms, if thrusted with proper timing, you can stop a horse in it's tracks (force it to rear back). Plus, the slashing attack is bonus :)

Honestly I think they both suck. A 1h/2h sword is MUCH better than just limiting yourself to a 2h. Any polearm on the ground ends up being a handicap (especially in siege scenarios). Unless of course the opponents all use them as in say a Greek mod.

Tough choice. I will have to go with the Awlpike though. Always can steal a horse I suppose  :P

But seriously, use it right and it's lethal.

sword of war was my fave for a long time. i used it mounted. rode up on an enemy just at the peak of its reach, and swung it at them.
i managed to cut down huge hordes of enemies that way, at least on the easier difficulties.
its a lot harder when they are blocking, then its better to use pikes or lances on horseback. preferably as long as possible,

What are you on about? Unless you're up against guns or you're surrounded by horse archers you don't really need a shield, and polearms have a lot of range and do lots of damage.

let's not forget about archers, crossbowmen, flying axes and javelins, and in this time period most of the ranged weapons are as lethal as guns.

Exactly. A shield is great to have until those arrow troops are out of commission then you can switch to a 2 handed stance with the same weapon you've been carrying. Thus, you also get 1h and 2h experience throughout the fight.

Longsword. Beats both of them, with the ability to have a shield.

Off-topic.

This thread is for Sword of War and Awlpike only. If you like something else, GTFO.

And cower behind your shield...
