It get frustrating when you tell your menn to follow you, and after you stop they move in a tight crowd around you preventing you from succesfully shooting the attackers. This is easily evaded when you are mounted, but a big problem for footsoldiers

Many of my footmen died from arrows i fired at enemy horsemen.

It would be nice if they would at least stay behind me all the time or maybe keep certain sdistance from me.

Well, when I tell them to 'follow me' I expect them to directly obey, and not keep standing on a hill shooting the enemy. I expect them NOT to get right in between me and the enemy either. (like the initial post mentioned, and which they ultimately do)
Likewise when I tell my men to 'hold this position' I do not mean stand in one spot like an idiot when there is a friendly getting attacked 2 meters away.
And when my man charge an enemy, I do not expect them to stop their horse right in the middle of 20 enemies surrouding them, and STAY there without any attempt to get the hell away and regroup at the least and work as a group.
Likewise, I do not expect, when told to 'charge', for a single hired sword, wielding a 2 hander (no shield) to charge into a group of 20 crossbowmen.
They would always however, 'exceed my expectations'.
I pray that Armagan has a few tricks up his sleve when full version comes out though ::grin:
Most certainly dividing your units into groups, giving specific orders to those groups and forcing the men to actually stay in that group and not suicide, would be nice ::smile:
