Fleshed out taverns

Recruit
I would like to see the taverns fleshed out a little more. The ability to buy ale by the pint instead of a barrel and quite possibly the ability to get drunk and wake up next to a brutally ugly barmaid. A little more ambience would be nice too. Instead of a torch in the fireplace, you could have a roaring inferno. Some patrons to pass along news of recent battles would give the player something to do while drinking with his men after a close battle. You may even find a bard that you could recruit to your party. As usual he would be completely useless in battle, but would boost moral by singing tales of your exploits in every tavern you stop at. Whether any wants him to or not.

I'd like to see at taverns the leaders of the other parties staying there. If a caravan stops at curaw, you could enter the curaw tavern and have a chat with the caravan master.

The tavenrs that are here now, in fact, most of the locations in there now, are just placeholders until the main gameply is done being programmed. Then comes the polishing. Remember that a blade has to be sharpened before it can be polished.

The torch in the fireplace is funny. Its like the innkeeper said "You want a warm fire? there you go you hooligans, that'll teach you to not buy any food or drink from me and just asking me for new hapless recruits."

The Taverns will undoubtedly be fleshed-out upon completion of more of the game.

Coupla things I'd like to see;

Barmen closer to the door! They don't need to be standing on the doorstep, but walking across the long room every time with Athetics 0, and full Black Armour tends to take up time eventually

The ability to choose how long you want to stay, so you could choose to stay for several days if you wanted, and train up your troops into a decent fighting force

More furniture etc, which I'm sure will be added

Stop the patrons all crossing/uncrossing their arms at once.

It's just damn creepy....

we who control the mind don't think so.

Really though, you are right on.

Once i stood in front of a trader just like that. Together in harmony we crossed/uncrossed our arms. Try it!

Btw, i guess this, too, fits in the later polishing issues:wink:

I like the idea of training your troops during extended stays at taverns. I wouldn't mind seeing a training area or barracks that functions like a tavern but allows you to participate in mock free for all with your troops in order to train them and give them experience with out the risk of having them slaughtered before you have a decent force. Im not sure if this would make the game too easy though, but I have noticed a lot of people complaining that the fodder is killed off too quickly.

In Freelancer, you can go to a bar and watch the news! :O
Maybe in the taverns there could be an NPC named 'messanger' and you could talk to him to hear where the big battles are.

Maybe later in the game you can quests from such messengers. Think of someone in the town center yelling "heaar ye, hear ye! Our king has announced his new rules for slaving!" blabla..

In Baldurs Gate i think, there were such guys. Also in gothic 2 a guy in center was explaining new rules of paladins' administration. May add alot to atmosphere but it seems there are much more things before that for now:p

I too like that idea. Thats exactly how it worked in Uncharted Waters, which again, i must highly suggest playing.

I dont really like it how you cant hit the NPCs in towns. It would be cool if they had guards in the towns, so if you hit the tavernkeeper a bunch of guards come in and throw you out of town. Plus, Im a vaegir and I was just thinking about how wierd it was that you could walk right up to the king without any guards or anything. And it would be really fun to run into town and start killin everyone untill you got kicked out. Maybe have it so you'd have to pay them to get back into the town or something.
I guess those are probably issues to deal with after the main gameplay production, but just in case, there they are.
