seriously this is the only part of the game that makes me rage

its impossible to win when you start and right off the bat EVERY single enemy runs after you

and you knock out a few guys, then the next few spawn and run after ONLY you

thats pretty fail ai

Or thay all spawn on horses with swords and shields and you get a damn bow on foot... Makes me what to smash my face into the keyboard!

I think that He meant that arena fight where you must survive fighting vs 40(?) men... With super high price of 250 dinars...
I can only agree, it's pretty annoying.
But.... But  it's wrong board... Go to suggestions section.

18 agility and 6 athletics will get you pretty far in the 40-man arena--you'll need the attack speed and run speed. it's not so much for the winnings as it is for building proficiencies. tournaments are for winnings as the arena master will tell you.

they only gang up on you in the beginning (not always) and kind of near the end when the spawn rate increases again. the game is trying to encourage you to take on multiple enemies at once, since you see this in the 'train the peasants' quest and the sparring practice.

at most, only 3 will come at you in the beginning--and that's if it happens. it's only difficult when there's multiple shield users, otherwise manageable. i think most people exaggerate its frequency because of how frustrating it is.

My first action in game will be to fight through the arena. If you win its a boost up to level 2 and put some money in your pocket for an item that might actually be useful.'

Also I find them fun.

I find with like 3 powerstrike, just runnign with a two handed swords works wonders, just raise it to the overhead swing, then just your opponent. Most likely, he will go for a block, but when you get fairly close he drops it for an attack, then WHAM! I hit the bastard uside the head.
Or block, then kick, then hit if he goes for the attack first.... Usually, if you can survive the first 6 or 7 opponents that spawn with you, you are good if you take out the new guy that spawns, immediately. Then, when there are like 15 oppenents left, a whole bunch spawn at once, so try and stay away from everyone so they don't all come fight you. Sometimes, when there are 4 guys that have beaten down their opponent, will suddenly become 'allied' and go after you, which sucks. But, with a little luck, only 1 or 2 guys will be left after everyone slugs it out in the 'finals' round (mostly champion fighters and 1 or 2 veteran fighters), which should be even enough for you to win.

So....Use the friggin two hander!

I normally go hide in a corner and hope I don't get stuck with a bow. It is just a matter of surviving so I go hide untill very few are left, savaging a staff, 2-hander and a sword and shield so I am ready for anything (sometimes a 2nd shield instead of the staff, tis needed for when you inevitably get mobbed).

Yeah, melee combats are way more difficult than tournaments (I think) and the payoff is really small. But yeah, when everybody makes a complot against you (including the ramdomness)... it's irritating.

it should be your 2nd action
1st should be the training field then go to a town and do the arena.
your fighting proficiency in the arena will be better and you have a higher chance of winning

That used to be, however now that game spawns you at the city I am far to lazy to run out to the training field

There was a mod for MB vanilla that had bigger arena/tournament grounds. It was MUCH less frustrating, and still challenging. You could actually win the arena match about once in 8 or 10 times.

I myself modified the reward rates using TweakMB (what an awesome app) kill 2 = 10d
kill 4 = 20d; kill 8 = 40d; kill 16  = 80d; kill all = 300d. Not a big change but at least it is not so often that you come away with no reward at all.

Does anyone remember what that mod was with the bigger arenas in MB Vanilla? Is is possible I could just move files from that one and have the bigger arenas in Warband?

Pretty much what I do...

Get thee to grab some plummeted two hander!

Doesn't it disturb you when the AI get's stuck on the walls? Ohh I forgot, people only whine when they can't win, however easy kills are nothing to complain about

The 40 man arena, when 5 spawn and all target you, yeah I raged

I like the added realism of the opponents occasionally running up to a wall for a few seconds to be admired by their adoring fans.

Is it just me or is it a LOT harder to pick up stuff now in Warband? That would actually be on my list of things to "fix."

Actually, the contrary is true. In Warband they drop far more stuff than in the classic M&B. Except bows and arrows which are rarely dropped. (Of course you can still turn to plucking arrows...)

LOL

True...!

any unit that's knocked unconscious will drop the last weapon they used. you will not see bow&arrow drop unless you kill them before they switch to the dagger. to accomplish this, the archer needs to be distracted shooting at one opponent (you or someone else), while the other one sneaks up to KO him.

same goes for companions who die. even though you may have stacked spare arrows on them should they fall in battle (arrows that they have no bow to use), they will not drop everything in their weapon slots as they used to in some older m&b versions.
