First person view, I am the only one who use it?

I just play to have fun. I mostly use 3rd person but for sieges 1st person is better. I have some issues controlling my horse in 1st person and seeing over the shield even if it's more real. In field battles I spend a lot of my time just ordering my troops about rather than fighting myself.

I have dueled friends in 1st person in Warband, and it was a lot of fun, and seemed to produce 75% more adrenaline.

But in a group fight with friendly fire it was impossible. In real life you can quickly glance left and right, plus peripheral vision and sounds let you know where friends and opponents are. Think American football, rugby or basketball. Your head is constantly bobbing around.

So you need to be able to see who's beside you as well as who's in front of you. Even in 3rd person it's hard to stay in formation.

But you are right, I should play single player in 1st person. At least no one is relying on me.

Edit: it would potentially have been cool if your mouse gave you free look, and A and D turned you left and right with Q and E let you strafe.

The problem with first person is, generally there are no reference of where your weapon is, you can tell if you are swinging from right or left etc.

Generally game consider animation to be understandable while creating fps modes, the player has some part of arm, weapon in sight all the time, whilst in bannerlord (or any mb game) fps is just camera placement chance, you can't see your action most of the times you can only guess what are you doing atm.

At first yes but with practice and getting used to your setup and training often, at some point you are so used to it that you know exactly what you are doing with your weapon at all times.

In most cases changing FOV to your prefered settings will help but it is true that situational awareness is something you have to train in 1st person, it is actually a skill to be aware of your surroundings and think ahead before you commit forward or start swinging in a group fight, you have to predict what will happen in a few seconds ahead and you cant just focus on the guy in front of you or get yourself flanked.

What is true is that with a large shield, your view is limited so you must block down or left to see, on the other hand if you put a large roman scutum shield in front of you to protect your whole body, you cant see much either so I dont see this as an issue but just part of the disadvantage of having a large shield. Hopefully they will improve shield coverage and locational damage so that it is possible to hit in the exposed parts when you block with a shield, which will make large shields attractive but with this visibility drawback ( when blocking).

I actually quiet love the FPS view in bannerlord, using the FOV slider, you can find a sweet spot between situational awareness and sight quality.
Nothing is more immersive then having your horse killed while charging at full speed with FPS view. It's decent and useful, for me I duel better with FPS it's much easier to see the incoming blow. Easier to land thrust attacks on horseback and land hits in siege where 1000 troops cuddle each other wtihout any space inbetween. One problem I find hard to adept is horseback swings, still manageable but I feel a bit harder because I need to focus on either my right or left while trying to land the hit and lose control and sight of my front, definetly more realistic and satisfying.

I like to watch the beautiful sword swings and moves in 3rd person. Each time I switch to 1st P I cannot enjoy the game as much as with 3rdP.
I would play 1stP only if it would be VR game.

Of course you can get used to it, that is not the point, the point is current fps mode does nothing to help you get used to it.

Yeah me too, out of respect I never say anything bad to the youtubers who act all proud when "cheating" with 3rd person.

For me 3rd person is to make screenshots....

If i want an arcade slasher i just play Dynasty Warriors or something like that.

But Bannerlord for me is not a simulation but it is half way between these two extremes so I only play first person because the second my guy becomes a sort of superhero or semi-God , the game lose all its interest to me.

This is also why I didnt try multiplayer yet and probably never will if servers are not locked to 1st person cause i refuse to play against someone who cheats with 3rd person and dont see the point of playing with the external view.. robs you of all the immersion and feeling of vulnerability and take out most of the challenge in single player especially if you play max difficulty with a general on foot ( limited view of the battlefield).

All weapons ( ranged included ) and situations are perfectly functional in 1st person... so i dont understand the point that 3rd person is important for multiplayer.

For me 3rd person in multiplayer is precisely what locks me out of it.
What the hell is going on, 3rd person is cheating? What world are we living in why is this person saying these things
3rd person allows you to have a better view of whats going on if you play in 1st person you're limited. Its a prefered way of playing why are you hating on it so much lmao its so ridiculous

Back when computer games were just transitioning from RGB ASCII characters (Kingdom of Kroz, etc.) Westwood Studios (now extinct) came out with Eye of the Beholder, in glorious EGA (the preceding video graphics standard to VGA, and which followed CGA) and stereo sounds. It was first person, and after CGA games that only used the little in-box speaker it was utterly immersive. It was many years before I would consider playing in other than FPV and even resented isomorphic games because I felt they were losing the way into virtual reality.

In case you want to try it out, I just posted this little tweak on nexus: First Person View Tweak.

I wil try it definately.

And I was Just trying to upload few pictures to show my point.

In these ones, animation-wise the player has literally nothing (except tiny arrows but since fps mode's purpose is to increase immersion this is a bad thing) to inform him/herself which is the swing direction up/down/left/right.

In these ones, first one is default look when the player picks bow, other than cross symbol and bow symbol at right bottom in the middle, player doesn't have any clue of what he/she holds. Second one however happens when player holds right mouse button, look how informative it looks. Do you see the difference?

And lastly graphical problems, generally texture quality in bannerlord is not the best but it does the job and honestly large scale battles high quality textures and models do bad more than good. However in close up view this can be irritating. Maybe devs should make high poly and better textured arm and weapon models for fps. In first photo chainmail textures need a bump map to prevent it from looking 'flat'. In second one look at the ropes of shield and edges of arm model, it needs to be more detailed in terms of polygon count. And last two is example for clipping issues.

Again I know this seems like a nitpick but, if they were just a bit better you would see it is worth it.

I find it really uncomfortable in battle. I see nothing around and the riding is much harder. But I do turn to 1st person when I walk around town to make screenshots without my character getting into view.

I use it exclusively. Much better fighting accuracy, and constant need to mind surroundings makes things way more exciting.

And yes, the MP needs to turn off 3rd person. It's a game-changer level of difference.

There's one thing I miss that I'd like to see brought back in Bannerlord; the deathcam.

In my little tweak (see my previous comment) I tried to apply it... but boy, there' s no way (not my field) :xf-cry:.
