Well it seems that a lone pistol has been added to the chest in Zendar. Since it does not appear on any troops or in shops yet, we might assume that Armagan included this weapon as more of a test and may remove it later. That being said, i think we should give Armagan some feedback on the matter. I personally find it a little out of place, but it is quite fun to use, and may add whole new element to the game. Plus it's not overpowered in the slightest, quite the contrary actually, since throwing rocks are more effective right now IMO. I think damage should be at least doubled, but your movement speed should be halved while reloading. Obviously this new element requires alot of fine tuning, but i think its interesting, fun, and should stay. What do the rest of you think?

Edit: Based on the first two responses perhaps i should have added another option like "They should be left out of vanilla M&B, but would be good for modders". But since i'm sure everyone would agree that this would be a good thing for modders to have to work with, lets assume the poll refers strictly to vanilla M&B only.

I think you don't know how to use them. One shot can kill a river pirate most of the time. They are not accurate but I killed ten pirates, all but two of them with the pistol and I had a few cartridges left.

You need to be close enough to them (1-2 running seconds away). A headshot is an automatic kill every time, a hit elsewhere and it takes max two shots.

And my answer is yes to pistols in vanilla M&B.
 
I just finished a game of Battlegrounds 2 about an hour ago, i think i know how to use a musket in a video game, ty very much :razz: I did the exact same thing with throwing rocks. It usually takes 2 rock headshots (1 with high throwing skill) to kill a river pirate, but consider the fact that you can throw them more than twice as fast and they're more accurate, they are still better.

I think you don't know how to use them. One shot can kill a river pirate most of the time. They are not accurate but I killed ten pirates, all but two of them with the pistol and I had a few cartridges left.

You need to be close enough to them (1-2 running seconds away). A headshot is an automatic kill every time, a hit elsewhere and it takes max two shots.

Remember that your ammo is permanently reduced when you shoot the pistol so it should be powerful because it's very expensive to use.

We don't know how much they will cost. My opinion is they should be very expensive (5,000 - 10,000 denars). Cartridges should be 100 for 20.

About your comparisons with rocks and so on you are forgetting that you're not meant to use pistols on river pirates. Pistols should be used on armored knights and there I can tell you the damage makes a huge difference. Rocks and even heavy throwing daggers can't penetrate dark knight helmets. Most arrows can't penetrate the horse armor.

For example a knight with armor 20. You can either shoot him with a bow which does damage 30 or the pistol damage 45. The pistol more than doubles (x2.5) the damage. I think that's worth it for a slightly longer reload time.
 
Power is irrelevent.

Once your good enough, even Dark Knights can be killed with a single headshot from a bow \ crossbow.

It all comes down to 'feel' I guess.

Personally, I'm ok with it. In fact, I would like to see it used a little more. Perhaps have Veigir musketmen units (would explain how they can go up against the Swadian marksmen anyway). As long as its kept to early gunpowder weapons I don't really see what the big deal is, and it would be a nice difference between the two factions.
 
I bet those of you complaining about the pistol don't know there is a necromancer and undead programmed into the game? You have to enable it now but in previous version I heard they were part of the normal game. So I don't think you can say you know what the 'feel' of M&B is because even the devs are changing their minds.
 
I also say firearms should be out... but one as an easteregg or an unavaible ingame would be great for modders...

(accually, opening up animations would be better then firearms themselves, modders already made a karabiner :razz:)

As wrote this I discovered the firearm in zendar chest. kk, pls kill me...

And I don't mind it being in there at all. Quite fun to use and if it helps the mod community well, thats great.
 
The plain vanilla M&B has a medieval setting. Therefore fireams (and magic) are totally inappropriate IMHO. By all means make firearms available for mods set in other historical periods though. Just my 2c worth.

FFS :grin: Son firing a laser guided rocket launcher at a helicopter 3 miles away doesn't automatically qualify you to work for the Post office you know.

Seriously i think firearms should'nt be implemented main game, not that i think it's Armagans plan to do anyway. But for modding it's ok.
 
Pretty sure Armaggan added it just for modders, which is why its a fairly useless weapon thats just sitting in a chest as an optional pickup, and not floating around merchant inventories.

This is kind of essential help for people working on mods that take place after ~1500 AD..

You right! I don´t want pistols, I want cannons! The first guns were portable cannons, I think the way it is too "advanced" right now. The first ones needed support of some kind I think, because they were very heavy. No way to use with a horse! And there´s one thing that was forgotten: they were VERY unstable. It could blow up right on your face when you shot. This could be added to balance the game, instant death to the player when he go boom :twisted:. I still need to see the gun ingame, i will try to find it now. Great update anyway!

And my answer is yes to pistols in vanilla M&B.

You can kill river pirates just by looking at them! Maybe you should try to kill a black knight with it and then say if they are overpowered or not?
