Firearms - a few suggestions

2) Guns shouldn't operate at all when they get wet. So if it rains or if the soldier carrying a gun gets in to river, no shooting at all. In case of fog, perhaps there could be 50% chance of misfire per shot or something like that.

Its quite easy to cross water and not get your weapon wet, havent you watched movies where the soldiers put their ammo and rifle above their heads?

Also, gunpowder does work sometimes when it rains.  Ive been a part of reenactments that took place in the rain.  there were only a few of ours, including mine that werent working.

Suggestions about firearms? Remove them from the game altogether!

and ruin all the mods with them?  Thats a pretty selfish wish when you dont have to use the weapons in the first place and they arent even in the game.

Gunpowder attracts water, so it's very easy to get it wet, however if you are using a percussion weapon it's easier to keep the powder dry

As for backfires? Cummon. You guys must have never used muzzle loaders before. There is more danger from things like match lock weapons where you are playing with powder and have a slow burning match in the immediate vicinity

it's unnecessary to have firearms in the game, and only makes things more complicated. we don't need them.

I think firearms are cool actually.  Though I wouldnt want it in Native M&B, There are mods with firearms anyway (Pirates! <3)

yeah... that's what I was trying to say... in native it's just another thing for the development team to do... when they could be working on more important things.

Well, the only thing is is that the Flintlock was not invented until Pirates came about, even though the Mayans had invented Gunpowder. That's what I think, anyway. Since there are no actual pirates (dispite the river pirates which havn't got'ny ships) the pistol doesn't really fit...

I think that the pistol should have a 30% chance of backfiring and exploding and a 10% chance of not firing. I also think that it can't be used in rain, because the gunpower would be wet and therefore unusable!

Troops with firearms: These should be an upgrade of Sharpshooters. If the backfiring option is added, these guys will have to have lots of armour. They should carry more than one flintlock/pistol thing (as classic pirates did as their weapons went bang frequently) if one explodes, so they can immediately grab another. Handy, eh?

Dual guns: Although you can't wield two weapons at once, this would be utterly fantastic (despite the fact that it'll take twice as long to reload the damned things). Any more than one shot per gun and you'll run the risk of turning this into a western movie. Ohhh, and we don't want that.

Pistols were invented in about 1530, which is a good bit earlier before the large scale piracy I'd say you're thinking of. There were battles where pistoliers came up against knights and the knights usually won, though the pistoliers could do very nicely against immobile infantry formations.

Actually one of the earliest surviving mentions of a pistol dates to around 1515. If I remember rightly t was a compensation claim by a German prostitute after one of her customers accidentally shot her in the jaw with a pistol he was showing off to her.

There seems to be a certain amount of thread duplication going on here, so I'm going to duplicate my responses:

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

If we were going to have gunpowder weapons (which I personally would NOT like), then they should be no more advanced than handgonnes or arquebuses.

For example:

There's some interesting info on early firearms here:

Oh my god Absox, if you do not start adding something to every topic I am going to borrow Naridil's vaegir sodomizer, and I am even more proficient in that than with the lance.

Threre is significant evidence that gunpowder was invented by the chinese, but as far as I know, there is no solid proof that the chinese were the very first people to use the substance, and it is possible that it was created in far smaller, and less known quantities in other places as well, of course this is mere supposition.  Anyways given the large numbers of Mayans it is entirely possible some witch doctor or the like formulated the formula some time.
