Some of you might remember the Battlefield 1942 mod FinnWars. Well, its been about ten years now, and just in time for our independence day, the studio behind the original mod, Iceflake Studios, has started work on a standalone game based on the original idea. If you dont know what FinnWars is about, it features all the wars Finland fought in 1939-45, a theater of war rarely seen in video games.

Their goal is 100 000€, and there's over a month left, so it should be achieved quite easily.

So, yeah, I imagine the mod was mostly played by Finnish and Russian players, did any of you guys play it back in the day? A fun fact, every independence day, the servers are packed even to this day (And today, as it happens).

I use to play this in its hayday. I always thought it was held back by some of Battlefield 42's goofy infantry mechanics and tank hitpoint system instead of proper armour simulation. I hope this standalone project will not stay too "faithful" to that old game's idiosyncrasies.

It's odd they didn't use Red Orchestra (Otfront or 2) as base game for this.

At least they're using UE4 and not ****ty Unity. That's something already.
