Finding battles on the map

Since all bandits run away from my 58-man horde, and my 72 max size can't take on a fortress, how do I join into battles on the map? I can't find them since your view is so small. They might be news like 'this fortress has been besieged' but by the time i get there it's been lifted already. what's your tactic for joining battles?

If you want to kill bandits, dismiss most of your army and run around with no more than 15-20.  If you still can't catch them you may need to dismiss more or get some horses.

If you're aligned with a faction as a mercenary or a lord you can follow a friendly lord and support them when they find fights.

I've accompanied other lords as they run around enemy territory but i only ever encounter scouts. and when they start a siege i can't siege with them. it's going to take quite a while before i get my relation up
