Finally got it

Not many will probably remember me... if not oh well. To Those Who Do Remember Me, I finally got this game.  Been playing for a while.  Annoyed at not being able to get anywhere fast enough.  I either lose my men in pitiful bttles. or I accidentally draw the attention of nearby forces that just so happen to see me and they just so happen to... uhm... want to kill me.  =/  I'm Vaegir (however you spell it) and so far they only have 2 major cities, the others being in the snow lands.

Any advice on what I can do to expand myself and fend off the forces that barrage me when they are supposed to be doing something else?

Team up with a kingdom and get some more troops, and try to lvl up as quick as possible

Seconded. The best thing you can do is to try and outrun them if you can't fight them. I would recommend the training field for leveling up, or arenas' in towns.
