Filming in Game for dummies.

I'm the dummy. More like retard, but that's besides the point. I got a few questions.

1. Is there such thing as a free program to film my in game escapades that will not destroy my computer with viruses and such?

2. How does one record outside of his character? I see other videos capturing fights between two non player soldiers or even shots up in the air. How do I do this?

3. Do you like smooth or chunky peanut butter?

If there is anything else I need to know for making good in game videos please feel free to tell me.

Go to the configuration menu at startup, and enable edit mode. Press Ctrl + E to enter edit mode, and you will be allowed to have an out-of-body experience. You can also press the H button to disable the health bar and have smooth water.

Note that if you disable the health bar, the game may freeze up if the player gets knocked unconscious - you can resolve this issue by randomly clicking near the center of the screen - eventually you'll hit an invisible button to keep the battle going.

Thanks Fei Dao. Um that brings up a new question.

4. Is there a way to have the computer take over your character so hes not just sitting there taking arrows?

You've got Xfire, FRAPS and Hypercam. but i wouldn't recommend Hypercam. try useing the other 2 instead.

edit:
FRAPS ain't free so it only leaves Xfire unless someone knows a diffrent cam?

You may also want to try slow motion cheat and freezing the time completely for headshots and other precise shots (recording in slow motion gives you better control over camera movement- you simply have more reaction time. Later, in the editing process, you can simply speed the clip to its normal speed).
I haven't filmed anything a long time so others may know better what was the key combinations for those cheats.
I would also recommend removing character names. If you aim to get cinematic feeling there really should not be any HUD and such. Also keep in mind basic composition.
Finally- editing is very important. It can ruin or make a good movie!

Good luck and hope to see something from you soon! :)

I would have to say chunky.

Thank you Stubb. I prefer smooth, but i see where you are coming from.

Thank you again everyone for the good advice, I hope to reward with a good vid. If anyone has any requests make them know because i feel like this might take a while. I am a sort of lazy perfectionist if that makes any sense.

X-Fire gives good quality. And with the latest updates, without IE8, then you can also access the web from ingame :)

Yea... did you decide what software you will use to cut your film? Vista comes with moviemaker... but it can be flaky when it comes time to publish your video. I made a few vids and they are on youtube.

Vista I have not. XP i still use.

And no I have no idea about anything about movie editing software.

This is harder than I thought.

It doesn't detect M&B. How do i get it to detect it? If i play on it will it detect it automatically?

I've got it working now.

* To fix this, go to your Tools | Options | Games tab.
* Find the games you have on your system in the 'Not installed' list.
* Highlight the game name and the "Manual Setup" radio button.
* Click 'Browse'.
* Find the folder that contains the .exe file for that game and click 'Ok'.
* Click 'Apply'.
