Figuring out the Party screen

Is there an explanation of how the Party screen works? I'd especially like to know what the numbers after each party member mean. For example, when it says "Peasant ( 5/8 )" what do the 5 and 8 mean?

I also see these numbers on the before battle screen and wonder if they have the same meaning, i.e., River Pirate (3/5).

I think I've figure out that a plus sign (+) after a party member means some of them are ready to upgrade. Any other things worth knowing?

Thanks,
Ace

3/5 for instance means that 3 are still able to fight while 2 are wounded...need to let time pass so the wounded can heal...

If units are killed then obviously the total will go down...

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work like that, because Borcha still appears in the battles.

To the left side are the party skills. I find that it's better to let your character do Leadership, Prisoner Management, Trade, and anything else extra, and let Borcha do Tracking/Pathfinding/Spotting. Marnid is the character I reserve for First Aid/Surgery/The other healing skill. >.<

I think Borcha and Marnid are included becuase they are heroes. There is a number elsewhere in the program that you can change to increase or decrease the number of heroes automatically included with your side in battles. (I can't remember where, but I had to change it to include Ymira in all of my battles).

more superstition - the AI seems to be smart enough to not send injured units, inlcluding B&M, into battle - treating the list as a 'suggestion,' if you will. Moving an injured hero [say less than 80%] to the bottom seems to help get them excluded, but does not guarantee it - or so has been my expeerience.

Heroes need at least 50% health to participate in battles.  The player, in old versions, needed approximately 20% (it was usually 20, but every once in a while, I could fight at 18 or 19 percent -- lag between the actual number changing, and the display changing?).  Anymore, however, it seems to be a non-factor--you can fight regardless of your health (though I haven't tested this much, and it may only be when you're defending.  The old rule may still apply while you're trying to attack).
