Hi everyone. So i was searching troop trees cause i always liked longbows for their range and i found out that fiann is single longbow unit in game. Also is it really worth using longbows ? I saw in a fights my fianns werent shooting at all and i was even on decent highground while enemy empire archers started firing first.

is your game at the current version (1.0.7)? i had this problem when the game was released but not anymore, they did patch it
about 80% of my archers are of the fiann troop tree
and yes these are the only long bow units, it is part of battanian culture, every culture has something that makes them unique, longbows are what make the battanians unique.

You can easily become invisible by having a cavalry troop considering that Ai has a such high ratio of infantry in their armies. I would say longbow is not a necessary thing as once you have enough infantry to protect and distract your enemy, archers can do a quite good job regardless of the type of their bow.

What do u mean by "80% of my archers are of the fiann troop tree" ? U mean there was some changes in troop trees ? Are fianns more easy to get now ?

I would also like to know. Is it easier to get battanian highborns and make them into fian champions?

He could have meant smth else. For me fianns are really hard to get. Highborns are rare in towns and villages so i cant recruit them at all.

I just checked around Battania, seems the same as it was - rare.

i mean 80% of my archers are batanian nobles, heros and fians, the other 20% are imperial archers. Battanian nobles are still rare to get but i am very protective of them so i dont lose that many of them, i am willing to sacrifice literally all of my melee infantry to protect my archers (because the battanian nobles are so hard to find).
when i said that they patched it i ment that they patched archers not fireing, sorry if i did not make this clearer, did not mean to cause confusion.

P.S. becomming a merc/vassal for the owner of a village increases your rep with the villages so that opens up another recruitment slot allowing you to recruit them more often

Well i guess i dont need more rep since i cant see highborns in any of those slots. If i at least saw highborns being in fifth or sixth slots i would do my best to increase rep ... But i cant see them in any village/town.

The trick to getting the special troops is to find "powerful" Notables and increase your rep with them. They're the only ones who get the special troops types in their rolls. You can see their influence level when you mouse over them in the city/village window.

Increasing your rep lets you access more of their troops obviously so you can get more, but since Lords generally don't increase rep with Notables, the higher slots will basically be exclusively yours so you won't have to worry about random Lords sniping all the recruits.

Just gotta find the Powerful guys, butter them up, remember who and where they are and check back periodically. Especially good if there are Powerful Notables in your fiefs because you'll get the passive daily rep gain from high security with them and probably be in the area relatively often when you stop in to your city or castle, and you can buy all their troops even if you don't need them and stick them in your garrison for later.

Should even buy their standard troops if they have them, because getting them out of there will free that slot up for a potential special troops later, otherwise the standard guy will just chill there forever until you or somebody else recruits him.and hog the slot.

They're there, keep looking. I've even picked some up in the 2nd slot before.

It was a pain playing on Realistic, but I've now got enough rep to recruit Battanian nobles from at least 4 villages when I do my recruit run.

To be more Specific any of teh special troops for any faction require the Landowner Notable and him to be Powerful or within a few points of it.

another tip for getting special troops:

once you find a village that sells them, buy the soldiers in the slots that you can recruit, even if they are normal soldiers, this opens up the slot so that there is chance it will be refilled with the nobles you need.

So should i be looking for "influence: poweful" notables ? Also are there any other ways of increasing rep with them except of their quests and maybe destroyin bandit hideout ?

and the problem with that is increasing your rep with them. There aren't enough ways currently. If they have a quest you can gain some, otherwise you have to wait for villagers in the area to be attacked, or hope for hideouts to spawn nearbly. In my game neither of those happens often.
