Fewer permabans?

It seems to me perm bans should be reserved for people who do stuff like post goatse or are (commerical) spammers.

A 3 day ban that says what was done wrong and who gave the ban out should be enough for minor stuff like flames starting to get carried away, and should be distributed at whim. They can be given out like little warnings. Love taps to know that the admins care. For more serious or repeat offenses, 30 day bans and for hardened spammers with attitude problems 90 or even 180 day bans should be enough. Six months is a long time when someone is 15-16 years old. For older people if they have a reason to want to be on the boards, then having to do without that long should make them seriously think twice before offending again, as well.

Just a thought.

I'm not sure about this idea, I agree that a "permanent" ban should be something like 6 months or a year because if the person really wants to be a member of the forums they'll come back and they'll behave (or at least try). However I disagree with the 3 day ban being a warning thing, with the amount of warnings given out for minor offenses every day we'd have nobody left. A simple pm or warning post is generally enough to quell the flaming or spamming for awhile.

Yeah, I agree, for complete idiots; Whizzard per se, a 180 day ban and probation may have even cracked him.

I think the rules are fair enough as they are, permanent only seem to happen for serious offenses.

Less assholes, less permabans.

The biggest problem with that is:
For some reason you're under the misconception we want the banned members around, what's that about?

@ Tankai: I agree, time we did something about that! Just kidding.

Nosferatu: What you're saying makes sense, there IS quite an excessive lot of permabans it seems. I agree with you.

All current perma-bannees have been warned AND given short duration bans - in some cases several of them. As far as I'm concerned, I don't see how that is a problem or why those people should have a six month ban instead of a permanent one.

Life doesn't start at 15 or 16, and neither does it end with a perma-ban from taleworlds forum.

I'm with Volkier. Further, people are fairly often allowed to come back from a permaban after a few months if they ask and seem like they might be able to make it without repeating whatever had them banned. The only thing which pretty much guarantees them not being ever allowed back is for people who admit to pirating M&B, ask for a crack or serial, or post a link to one.
As a matter of fact, I'd estimate probably 80-90% of the people permabanned are banned for just that, piracy (or attempted piracy) of M&B.

So, I think the current system works as it is.

After glancing over the ban list, your rough guess is correct.  Very rarely do you run across a person permabanned for a reason that wasn't a crack/serial/piracy.  The small minority that remains are ban evasions or repeated offenses.

Well, I think what I am saying is we'd have a lot more short term bans. Like a 3 day (or even 1 day) ban should be no big deal at all.

That way people will take things more seriously and if they don't, 6 month them. After that time even a lot of the super tards might reform a lot. Some of them are 13 years old after all. 13 to 14 is a big change.

I have to agree 100% here. For members who are quite clearly going to do nothing but disrupt the boards (i.e. Raneman, Whoopin (If only) Whizz-tard) a perma-ban is more than fair, since they obviously have no real interest in making a contribution to the community.

But established members of the community who have a bad week and go on a spam rampage with a few racist remarks and get perma banned without hope of redemption... well it's just taking things a little too far. Short bans should be stepped up, with 3 day bans for mostly minor offenses being commonplace. Perma bans should be reserved for people we just don't want in the community.

I don't want anyone in the community who will go on a spam rampage with racist remarks under any circumstances.
