Few questions about how to start modding.

Hello there.

I've searched the whole forum, but found nothing what could help me out.
Hope you Guys can help me.

I have installed all Programs, that are needed for M&B modding. Such as BRF Edit; Map Editor, Python scripts and ModuleSystem.
And i wanna mod the newest version, 1.011.

And the first thing i wanted to do is to edit some of the World textures. I loaded up the materials.brf and the textures.brf and thought i could easily export the textures i want to change and then import them again and save them in my Mod Folder. But i dont know how. Maybe it's not that easy than i thougt. So how can i edit and replace the textures?

My second problem is, i wanted to edit a M&B model in Wings3d, but when I save it as *.obj and load it up in Wings, there is no Material/Texture at all.

I hope someone can help me!

You will need something that can edit DDS graphic files.  These are the textures that should be in your texture folder.  I haven't done mesh/texture work on M&B in a year or so, but this is what I remember.

As to texturing in wings, can't help you there.

I googled it and had to download the Plugin for my Photoshop.
Now it works.


But what is the use of the brf's? Is it just a compilation of models and materials or what?
And how do i add my textures to an own brf file? Is that of use anyway?

The BRFs are a combination of the object and the textures.  It stores multiple obj files as well as their texture refence.  So if you make an object in say wings 3d, use some other software to set up the UV mapping, then when you go into the BRFeditor, you can take you obj, and assign an existing(as in the DDS files in the right folder) texture to it.  For most the hard part is the UV map.
