i just got the idea of adding festivals to the game.. which i never saw in any onther game yet...
like, yoou come to a city and they welcome you since theres a festival and thers like tournaments and lots of merchants and peddlers and stuff....
then there are competitions at archery, hunting(was going to propose this as a new skill) and other stuff....
what you thinkg aboutit?

"Realms of Arkania: Start Trail" had street fairies on some cities. Like, every saturday there was a fair in city X, every sunday a fair in city Y.

I'd say it's something to do once a large amount of content is added to the game. It's not essential, but it would be neat.

At present, however, it would be quite wanky if you had just defeated some troublesome bandits, and entered the town of Curaw and recieved a prompt telling you that the town was celebrating.

yeh how cool would jousting competitions be

Yea but how would jousting work in the game, i can only think of 2 knights battling each other 20times and everytime it says something like:

Couched Lance Damage!
Delivered 100damage
Couched Lance Damage!
Recieved 90 damage!
Knight 1 knocked unconcious
Knight 2 knocked unconcious

You would have to be able to aim you lance to make fun at all.

and dont forget that the lance breaks too...

also... how about you could get married with somone?
wouldnt make much sence.. but havent seen it once in anyother game(probly cause thers a reason to it)

Actually, you could get married in Defender of the Crown, at least in the original version. You get word that someone's daughter was kidnapped, you head off and stage a daring rescue, one thing leads to another, and bam.

But I have doubts about having your spouse show up as another hero in your party like Borcha. Can you imagine the arguments?

"Honey, why didn't you help me when those Dark Knights were swarming all around me?"

"Honest, dear, I tried to, but I was too busy reloading my crossbow!"

"And that's another thing. In the battle before this, why did you put a crossbow bolt in the back of my head?"

"You should say something before you run in front of me like that!"

And so on.

But I do think that festivals would be a nice addition to the game, just to give more of a sense of life to the world -- and to give the player something new and more colorful to participate in.

Nice idea - but what difference things/items would the merchants be peddling in these festivals?

Unless of course the game was changed so that only basic stuff was available in towns, and the better quality to be found in the festival.

I suppose horse jumping in the arena might be a interesting event...without armour of course!

And if there were jousting competitions, they should really be somewhere to practise, like those posts with the spinning shield thing - sorry don't know the name of it!

NB: Thieves have a habit of hanging around festivals.

A festival would also have the advantage of having more then just one weapon-smith, and one armor-smith there so really it would be like visiting several towns at once.

There could of course be games of chance like dice etc.

The aiming of the lance is OK you would just need a tournament lance that breaks on impact with a shield or helmet which would take about 8 years of developement. But it would be fun. But who is the winner in a computer jousting game? You would need the getting knocked off the horse idea that is being worked on so maybe this will be reallised.

8 years?
its the same thing as the shield, but instead of damage received, its damage given...
like lance has 60 hp..
you do 80 damage, lance breaks
but if you only do 50 it doesnt...

It would take a long time to make a model of a lance with the splinters already seamlessly integrated into the lance so that when the animation of the lance breaking is made it would work instead of just falling out of your hand. That would take a long time.

Yeah, thanks for backing me up man, the real trouble would be the festival where we would have to sacrifice all those bulls to appease the gods and assure a good crop next year.
