First off, unlike some I am willing to patient and wait for fixes...so this isn't a rant about bugs or some unfinished bits. I played Brytenwalda a fair bit, so I knew going in that I was going to have some issues with game choices by the dev team...but:

The storyline campaign feels like a deliberately crafted exercise in frustration for the player. It is functionally impossible to 'roleplay' through it with a consistent character as the options you are given often have little to no effect and there is usually only one way forward. The cut scene combats are just ridiculous, I am a veteran M&B player as well having played Bryt a good bit so I know how to fight...but they are just unbeatable...I despise having to turn player damage down to 1/2 or a 1/4 just to get past some silly cutscene where my forces are locked out, but somehow the enemy has 5, 8 or 10+. So the storyline being a dead end of frustration for me, I've played a lot of the sandbox mode...

Which starts the next comment: something in the world balance is BADLY wrong, some of it is pathfinding but more is just position and numbers. Anglo-Saxon unification and dominance is seemingly guaranteed and the vikings nearly powerless. I've watched Mercia or Wessex take over most of southern england in several games now while ignoring wars with the danes, norwegians and frisians because the viking powers NEVER invade! I've seen more Angle raiders landing in denmark than the reverse!

I hope this is something you can fix, because if not this will get shelved to the back of my mod lists and trotted out occasionally for the novelty.

You say you are not gonna rant... then you rant

Disagree on the story. Great RPG. I finished the campaign twice. Lots of minor differences for the quests, big split (major decision) around half way and just a fun story to play with.

Difficult of the campaign: depends on the player. My second campaign (1.02) I never had more than 60 troops and 1 ship. Normal damage (ally/myself), good AI (max difficult on map world).

If you find it too hard: thats why you can grind, get more levels, cheat or turn down the game difficult. Play the game your way. Its your time and your fun.

Cheers

I said I wasn't going to rant about the bugs or unfinished parts  I ranted about entirely different things!
Also, I play with the stamina/armor penalties...which makes those personal fights a lot harder.

I do too. But then again those options are not mandatory. There is a begginer setting that turns all of them off and let you recruit without needing to earn reputation first.

Cheers

I feel like the campaign was the best part of this DLC. I beat the campaign twice and I still want to do another and I usually can't stand playing a game more than once. I just feel like I need to explore more options and RP differently each time

Have you played the 1.03 beta any? The Norwegians and Danes are supposed to be a bit more aggressive in that upcoming patch, but I've not played it yet myself to see just how often or effectively they invade.

They both declared war on Northymbre almost immediately after the updated and sent some armies over, so seems to work almost too well

I'm playing the latest version - done a couple more games and that part hasn't changed. Looking for vikings in England is like looking for Samurai  I'm closing out the first year as a Mercian lord and there hasn't been a single incursion of any strength by the Norse. Every now and then a single warband makes it over a loots a village or two until it is cornered and wiped out...after 2-3 of those the norse kingdom in question gives up and there is a truce a few weeks later tops. Even the neutral faction 'vikings' are so weak that they really don't even provide a useful 'leveling up' target, not worth the time to hunt down bands of 4-10 vikings after the month or so...

Might try the storyline again, but only might...not sure what the point of it is...clearly you have no option but to be an enemy of the Ragnarrsons

actually in the midle of the storyline you have a major choice beetween siding with the Ragnarsons of Northumbria or with their enemies of Weast Seaxe

I'm currently having a hard time defending norway with my peasants against a lord from Ui Neill who is raiding villages here.  :???: All the lords from norway are in scotland, where they already have captured Dun Foither within day 25.
