The UK, for being the ones who finally stepped in to end turmoil in Europe at the Battle of Waterloo, after so many failed attempts by the other powers.

The ammount of money the brittish pumped into its allies in order to keep them fighting whilst remaining safe themselves were astounding,at least.

I read a book about the era, with the follwoing quoute;

"It Seems the brittish are going to fight to the last Austrian"
-Talleyrand

:wink:

Indeed. The British sent lots of money to their allies. And they remained safe from French invasion after the French and Spanish navy got their ass handed in Trafalgar.

The British were also afraid to fight the French on land in my opinion. They fought well in Spain and such but they still were afraid to figth the French in my opinion.

You could say that it makes the other Coalition power's follies look all the more worse, that even with all that funding they couldn't do the job.

Well, in all fairness, I think one has to consider the fact that France were and had been top dawgs in Europe for quite some time up until that point. And as such it's not that surprising that other great powers failed against France, especially since the UK never really bore the brunt of Napoleons finest troops. Britain was mostly involved in secondary theaters where the quality of the french troops was second rate and they were not supplied in the same way as the main theater either. And when Britain finaly had two major pitched battles against Napoleon the results weren't that overwhelmingly in favour of the British. Quatre-bras was of course a victory, but that was against Ney, and there was one army corps sight-seeing between Ligny and Quatre-bras if I don't misremember.

And Waterloo could have ended very differently if it wasn't for some rain and communication errors between Ney and Napoleon. Not to mention the fact that the prussians were kiting around Grouchy.

And even when Waterloo was being fought the Russians and Austrians had armies en route.

Don't get me wrong, in my opinion the UK was singularily important in the downfall of Napoleon, but that is in it's Naval and Financial role, by funding the other continental great powers Britain kept the strugle up until the french army ran out of steam.

I'll have to go with Saxony as my favourite Napoleonic Wars nation, they had some kick-ass cavalry some infact that were a part of capturing the great redoubt at borodino!

Italians italians italians!        :mrgreen:

They weren't afraid, they were just not stupid. Obviously Britain's power was it's navy. So why would you fight on land? War is not about honour its about winning. Something no one can deny the British are very good at.

I like America, because they are..good ^_^

But on a serious note :razz: I like the Dutch/Belgians because of their overall contributions and the lack of recognition they received during and after the wars for the amazing things they did.
