all kirigits are archers *idiots*
All kirgits can use bows (yes, even the lancers), that doesn't really qualify them as archers though.
When talking about archers we're talking about units that actually hit other troops and inflict damage. Watching the lancers and mounted archers all lined up shooting at incomming enemies is like watching the 14 year old class at summer camp trying out bows for the first time... arrows fly all over and hit at random ¬_¬
Still, I have never yet met an army with archers that I couldn't crunch under the hoofs of cavalry, vastly superiour numbers aside of course. Noone expects 20 cavalry to kill 180 enemies (unless you play on ez-mode anyways).
That said, I did try running a new game and doing a 50/50 infantry/archers Vaergir army. From a player perspective, sure, the archers can be quite efficient. Most infantry is nailed before they come within melee range, and when they get close you simply order your own infantry up in front of the archers. I keep infantry lined up behind archers and doubletap F6 to move infantry up front if infantry gets close. Cavalry gets handled by infantry since they have an engagement radius of about 10-15 paces around them, so they move in and kill anything nearby when on Hold this position orders.
So, summed up... bots vs players, the archers are crap... players vs bots, the archers put out some real damage. At least thats my experience (from using the Vaergir ones anyways). I don't find the Kirgit mounted archers too good. They are usually first to start dying in an engagement and I really hate losing troops (hence why I boost my Surgery skill early on as well).
