Well Beerfest, that's historical right? The tradition of the German underground?

Also... Supertroopers is a fight to keep their station from getting shut down. That counts as War.

I completely forgot, there are actually films about war that I think are amazing:

Land and Freedom by Ken Loach

Spartacus (from 1960) by Stanley Kubrick.

(mostly due to the history behind them)

Zulu
Where Eagles Dare
Stalingrad
Master & Commander
Full Metal Jacket
Black Hawk Down
Apocalypse Now
The Trench

The Ninth Company. Not sure if that's the English title, but the Finnish one was Yhdeksäs Komppania. One of the best Russian films I've seen so far. Although I've loved the adaptations for Dostojevski's Idiot and Satan Arrives To Moscow. (Again, not sure about the spelling, crude translations at best)

EDIT: ****, I can't find an IMDB entry for the movie I've a hardon for. Basically about Russia-Afghanistan war in the soviet times.

Lord of War is awesome. Must be one of the few films where Nicholas Cage does quite well. Others I like have already been mentioned.

Not exactly a movie, but HBOs Band of Brothers is a brilliant description of WWII in my opinion. It's being aired over here in Finland now, for the second time I guess.

No one said Saving Private Ryan?

Otherwise, Stalingrad, Enemy at the Gates, We Were Soldiers.

Yep, that's a good one. But, it's not very accurate historically. The real 9th company of a 345th paratroops division held off 12 assaults on hill 3234. Out of 39 solders of the company, 6 died and 28 were wounded. The Afghans lost close to a thousand troops dead and wounded. After half a day of fighting, the 9th were relived by a forward recon platoon with heavy artillery support and evacuated.
But the movie, while not precise, still is a good one. There are English subtitles on the net, BTW. Also, another great Russian war film is a "Purgatory". It about the Chechnya war. No other movie i saw tells shows the war and, specifically, urban combat, more scary.
Other great ones are - "Enemy at the Gate", "FMJ", "Apocalypse Now" (the director cut edition), "Lord of War"...

There was a cool movie I saw on TV about a Russian tank crew in Afghanistan. Buggered if I can remember the name of it now.

All three LOTR movies as tops

Batman Begins, Gladiator also in the top 5.

Fall of the Roman Empire (older) is also a good quasi-historical movie, Gladiator borrowed from it quite a bit.

Lawrence of Arabia, and Breaker-Morant (aussie movie about Boer War,)
