I tend to blend sword and shield with cross bows. works well on foot and from horseback. i also tend to charge alone when all is lost. (stupid i know, but i have won impossible fights like that.)
I stick to a polearm, either bladed for rabble, or a blunt can-opener for those in heavy armour.

I tend to play Vaegir more often than not, and prior to joining a faction, I tend to make a mix of Vaegir and Nord infantry for my army. I bulk up on Vaegir Marksmen and Nord Huscarls. I use three ranks of some kind of infantry, with my archers on a hill to draw up the enemy and I use my infantry to keep everyone else at bay.
When it's feasible, I also tend to use a lot of Rhodok Sharpshooters, as they're fairly decent in all areas and a great garrison troop.
I myself tend towards being a highly active member of my army. I rely on renown to get my party size up more than Charisma. I would have to say my favourite looking armour is the Vaegir Elite, but I'm prone to getting the Sarranid one as well. I keep a few weapons in my inventory, but I rely mostly on throwing spears, fighting axes, and maces. I try to make my army look Eastern European/Viking/Ragtag. I rarely use horses. I rely heavily on foot archers and throwing weapons. Always keep a pike for days when the Khergits and Swadians brings their traveling horse parade.
