Squire
I was wondering what peoples favorite character types or styles may be, some examples are Horse Archer, Footman, Crossbowman, etc...

Personally I've only played a couple of different builds but find that my favorite one is the Horse Archer build, just so many arrows in so little time and so many dead men.

Loving the freelancer mod elements, signing up as a nord footman, and working my way up. Once I'm a lord of somewhere Important, and can afford my own knights, then Ill equip as a heavy cavalryman, and fight alongside them, but before that, leading my infantry from the front, frontrankers all the way!

I like horse archer but heavily armoured and do more damage with long sword - though nothing beats knocking an enemy out of the saddle with a head shot at a full gallop.

I don't like horse archers at all. I think they're the most annoying thing in the world.

I'm more like a shielder, holding my line or shock troop, charging their line.

I like Heavy Knight style!

Wearing an Iron armor
Ride an armored horse
With a lance and shield
And one-handed weapon for on foot

Bow + some polearm/two handed weapon, on foot. Warbow + heavy great long axe/heavy great long berdish, to be specific. I'm courios about this 52 dmg, 180 cm long poleaxe, but it fits more for swadian faschion, so to be used with crossbow, wich I don't really like.

Totally agree. I wish there was a 'torture prisoners to death' option just for them!

My favorite style depends most on the mods I play, but it is always a footman (I don't like thorses and they don't like me -- or at least in-game). In native, I wield a 2handed sword and sometimes use throwing axes for fun (and to disrupt enemy archers). I mostly use mediocre armor that I can afford (and which looks good), such as a Flat-topped Helmet with a Haubergon and Ankle Boots -- This looks very 'Swadian' somehow.

But in Freelancer, as a Swadian Sergeant in Harlaus' company, I'm equipped with a Coat of Plates, Iron greaves, Gauntlets, a Guard Helmet (they stole my Flat-topped Helmet! Buhuu! ), and I'm armed with a looted Vaegir Ashwood Pike, a scavenged Huscarl Shield (trophies from some wars), and a purchased Heavy Morningstar (which I mostly use 2handed; I use the shield 'cause we're at war with the Rhodoks currently).

Good replies so far, ecspeacially like yours Joe, but I still like having some sort of ranged weapon such as a bow for distance no matter what...

I tend to go heavily into the CHA and INT skills, so doing anything but Heavy Cavalry is a bad idea for me. I do this because it will take too long to conquer anything if I only invest in combat skills.
Still, having your own fighting ability is important, so I currently go with a minimum of 12 STR & AGI for the ability to ride difficulty 4 horses, and to be able to do any real damage to enemies.

I max out Power Strike, Weapon Master, Shield, & Riding.
This way I have all the necessary abilities to be a horseman. I tend to prefer steel shields, long arming swords, and light crossbow or lance. To be honest, I always use the one-hander the most.
My high trainer & leadership allow me to have large, well-trained armies, and trading/tournaments lets them be well funded by businesses.

I don't like going with cavalry heavy armies; if only for the sake of honour.

Ah, the stats.

Well, I usually role-play lowborn commoners (as captains of mercenary companies), and, as such people usually are illiterate, I keep INT at a max of 6 (with 7 INT one can read a book). I usually invest heavily in STR and AGI (with mostly the 'Weapon-Master', 'Ironskin', 'Atlethics' and 'Power-Strike' skills) and something less in CHA (with only 'Leadership' skill; 2 in 'Prisoner-Management' is enough for me). Thus my company stays small, but I'm a power on the battlefield to be recconed with (I have saved a considerably number of Lord's Asses in both Native and The_Eagle_and_the_Radiant_Cross mod, in which I play in the similar Doppelsoldner-style).

But I'm not a berserker; When low on healt, I usually stay out of the fray.

I like my "heavy great long axe" because it has alot of range and power and when on a horse hacking people is what i do. because when i get the speed bonus, i one shot everything but the very top tier units (like knights) and because i need a ranged weapon i have a "masterwork light crossbow" with "steel bolts", i am mostly on my "hunter" and this is how i play.

this is what i did in the original and it worked good, it also works good in warband. try it, nutin like one shotin everything.

A heavy Horse Archer in the Sarrranids, I prefer my bow in close ranged combat. Although Im forced to draw my sword out sometimes.

reinforced vaegir mask, reinforced plate armor, reinforced plated greaves/boots/37ish armor thing, lordly lamellar gauntlets, heavy charger, and a heavy great bardiche.

i just park myself in the middle of the enemy crowd and taunt them with my wild slashing.  if it is a siege, i use a bow until i run out of arrows for headshots, and either pick up random arrows on the ground or tank until one of my sharpshooters drops his siege crossbow.

I think horse archery is one of the finest things in the game. Real satisfying once you get the hang of it and made more so because of the number pissed off heavily armoured footman who can't even get close!

Not nearly as satisfying as playing as infantry, stabbing a horse in the face with a spear to make it rear,  and then cleaving the helpless rider in half as he vainly tries to flee.

I do the same thing in multiplayer. Usually when I play as Rhodok infantry. I get a pike and a great hammer and that's all I need.

Or even better (in vanilla): Cleaving charging warhorses in two with my big sword!
