Summary: Family members dont stay in keep when left there, insted they travel around between allied towns. I noticed this issue also occured with companions a few patches back but has since gotten resovled, maybe a similar solution will fix it?.
How to Reproduce: Leave brother or sister in keep(town) and wait a few days to see them change location, havent tried with castles.

I think this applies to all of the NPCs , not only to your family. Only governors stay in place. It maybe guarantees that Nobles mix and meet each other, sometimes to couple and have offspring. A neat "feast" mechanic like in Warbands would fix that :wink:.
 
I've also noticed family members always tour the country unless they are governors. I believe companions used to wander, but now they seem to stay put.
 
This has happened in every single campaign I’ve played since 1.5.7
It only effect nobles, ie people who stay in a keep when you leave them in a town.
wanderers are not effected as they stay in the tavern when left in a town.
this makes is very hard to leave a family members in a town with their spouse in order for them to have children.
 
With the lack of feasts this is really an issue to get the players Clan growing without ordering all the family members and their spouse every night to spend in a town to have some couple time.... NPC clans however get going very quickly ... I understand the mechanic is that our family members move magically from fief to fief, to meet with other nobles, but it would make sense to move spouses always together....

Its not even close to resolved. I appoint family members or companions as governors, then it shows them in other towns, but still governing the town I appointed them in. I've had family members captured when towns they were in were captured, but they still show as governor of the town/castle I appointed them to. I've taken back towns where a governor was staying (but not the governor of that town) and gotten the message that 'companion X, who was separated from you in a previous battle, is staying in this town' and they are in the tavern. I have to admit that I find it annoying that apparently no Taleworlds staff even plays the game they are supposed to be building.
