Extreme game slowdown

I have a problem with the game(ver .711 fresh install) repeatedly freezing up for about 5-10 seconds at a time. It usually happens in outdoor battles but occasionally just when walking around towns. Works fine in arena battles though. I've tried messing with all the settings and nothing seems to fix it. I have a 2.8 ghz pentium with a geforce fx5200 videocard with 128 mgbytes of memory. Anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure nothing is running in the background which could be causing it.

Also, the update will have reset the .ini file. Run the config option from the menu and make sure the graphic settings are correct for your card

I've tried that and all the other suggestions that I can find on this forum, reinstalling, msconfig, upgrading vidoe drivers, etc... still no luck. Luckily it seems to work fine on my brothers computer, maybe it's my video card...

The card should be able to handle the game fine.

Try turning off all the graphic options and see if the problem still exists. If it is the card that should prevent it.

It may also be worth turning down the battle slider and seeing if that affects it. It may be down to the amount of enemies on the field (increasing the amount of processing being done).

That card should be able to run the game just fine, but just so you know...i owned that card for about a week before sending it back. My old GeForce 3 was acting up, so i needed a replacement and thought that surely a fx5200 would be a little bit of an upgrade...but i was very mistaken. Turns out the fx5200 actually runs worse than a GeForce3, even called nvidia and they said that was to be expected. I don't know if that has anything to do with your problem though. Try minimizing the game and brining it back up and see if that temporarily fixes the issue. Strange i know, but it worked for me in the past with that card...

The FX 5200 was the bottom range card designed to replace the MX series. Its slightly better than a Geforce 4 440MX (Equivilent to a Geforce 2), and has support for pixel shader 2.0.
The card will run the game fine. I used to have a Geforce 4, and that could run the game fine with no slowdown.
The biggest boost seems to come from system memory. On my GF 4 system it ran fine even in large battles, with 512Mb Ram. My girlfriends GF 2 Ti (actually a better card) it did slow down in large battles, although she only had 256 Mb ram. Dropping the battle size should deal with this though.
