Okay... Maybe some ppl will hate me or just ignore me but this skill is a little out of reality... I think it could be changed to something like pack donkeys or something like it... Wanna more space ? Buy more pack donkeys... NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU ARE YOU JUST CAN´T STICK 28 FULL PLATES IN THAT LITTLE CHEST YOU CARRY AROUND!
We could use the empty skill slot to something more useful( anyone thinking of smithing skill  ).
Well, that's just an idea =)

A simthing skill would be cool but when and where would you do it?

Mybe a hunting skill?

Or if moral had an effect on your toops you could have a charisma skill to rally up your troops before battle, I like this idea or the hunting skill better then simthing.

What kind of knight or warrior makes his own weapeons and armor.

Hey powerg8 , the smiths sell things to us, why can't we rent their anvil, forge and stuff a little?
Hunting would be cool too( Yay, we could act as real noblemen unless you are talking about head hunting  ) but most RPG fans are prolly craving for some laboring skills as we are used to make our own overpower equip after hours and hours of macroing or training...
And answering to your last question i'd say: "Lame RP addicts like me  " but as you are asking about it really i guess most of the best smiths were also fighters(at least in their young days) that knew how things worked in real battle and that's why things like sword evolved from a huge butcher cleaver(ancient bronze swords) into an elegant and deadly long sword(ok ok and a little help from new technologies like steel and stuff).

Smithing is hard and takes a long time to learn. Fighting is very hard and takes a VERY long time to learn. I can't even imagine someone doing both particularly well. The reason swords evolved is the strange relationship they have with armor. Imagine a huge game of rock paper scissors. People found that some type of armor could defend well against the most effective sword there is. People get that armor. People find a type of sword that works well against the new most popular armor. Repeat.

Furthermore, keep in mind this is the Middle Ages, so town smiths would be organized into guilds which had very strict rules about such things.

If a smith rented you his anvil, he'd be thrown out of the guild by his fellow brothers in ten minutes flat -- and, given the typical charters of Medieval civic life, he'd probably be exiled from the town altogether and forced to take up a life of vagobandage.

So, no. You can hire a smith, but you can't smith yourself.

yeah....
smithing skill,hunting,fishing,smithing etc....
and it actually would make game more realistic... maybe packhorses+carts

Assuming by "hunting" we're referring to hunting with a bow or crossbow -- I mean, you can chase rabbits around with a sword if you want, but it's got to be tiring -- I don't see why it needs its own skill. We already have the appropriate skills -- archery and crossbow! Okay, there might be a skill for "moving quietly so as not to scare the game", but I think this is something anyone ought to be able to accomplish without special training.

I like the suggestion that was made earlier: rather than inventory management, make it horse management. That skill determines how many horses and/or other pack animals you can have, which in turn determines how much stuff you can haul with you.

Hmm, maybe another slot (like the food/equipment slots) for your baggage! Like you start out with a sack, and you can upgrade to things like a chest, a peddlers pack, a packhorse, cart and horse.
Hunting/fishing: Maybe a food skill is better, like a foraging skill say, so you can shoot animals with archery but use foraging for getting plants/carving meat off the animal, fishing. And different poles to maybe and bait... (or not).

let's remove inventory skill
with the current model when in fight all things are put aside there is no need for it

horses shoud be in separate menu

inventory quantity/weight carried should be based on number of your spare horses
the more horses the higher capacity

otherwise it is without common sense and as for now M&B is realistic in most cases

you thinking of RS????? no smithing skill unless i see my guy hammer the iron bars to shape.

Then i know i'm not the only one who wants to do things gothic-style =P
Well, if we can be priest/fighter why not smith/fighter?
What the hell, i wanna craft something with my own name in it!

I guess Smithing should be avaible only to "Merchant" class. Some jobs could have special skills (no major changes between the classes, just a few bonus points).

Or don't make any "class skill" at all, but add bonus to that skill, according to the job you have chosen (like if you choose to be an archer, you get an extra "power draw" after 10 points spent, just an idea).

LUBOLA, its already kinda sorta implemented...
when you start with merchant you have different skills at start.....

and making class specific skills would be stupid... this game is supposed to be realistic!

Have you read the second part on my post? I know class specific skills are stupidity, but certain classes are more proficient than others in some things.
If you are a merchant, you would probably have harder times while trying to fight. Not that you can't have same skills as the knight, but it would take longer to develop that.

For example, if you are a muscle tower, power killer. You wouldn't be as good in trade as a merchant. Some classes should have bonus in some skills, i don't want class specific ones too.

Indeed.

So your saying a merchant who survives by hiring bodyguards should know the stealth of the hunter? CLASS SKILLS EXIST IN REAL LIFE!
Your say... a fruit marketer at a local bazaar whatever. You are asked to make a lock, or for that matter, known the intricate workings of the inside of a lock, the tumblers and whatnot. Do you think you could do it without having PICKED UP THE SKILL from either being around or personally being A LOCKSMITH? (Which is the equivalent of a CLASS)?

Didn't think so.
(this excert about locks is a personal experience,
I spent many many hours learning how to pick locks from
anywhere like 2 tumblers (verrry old lock) to 13. and trust me, without researching, and knowing a locksmith, it is not an easy thing to do.)

yes im saying that if a person knows how to do it, he/she CAN do it unless he/she is a damn retard

get the idea that people can LEARN stuff? no?
i mean, a FARMER, he grows crops and stuff... but he can also know how to HUNT even though maybe not AS GOOD as a HUNTER can hunt, but he still CAN hunt.

and class specific is like saying "ONLY if youre a HUNTER you can hut, but ifre youre NOT a hunter, you CANT HUNT!!" thats stupid... i can shoot with a bow and im not a hunter but a student...
