Are you asking about the method itself (basically making new armour) or the texture itself? To the first, I'm doing quite a bit of this myself. As for the texture, I'm not a fan. My suggestion would be to look at the armour in some mods. http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,20947.0.html that one has a nice scale texture.
It's always nice to see other players working on scale armour textures. Depending on what you do with the alpha layer, that texture would look good in-game. I'd roll with it and see what you can come up with.
Everytime I look at that screenshot, it reminds me of a maid's outfit. I think it is the colors, lol. Other than that, it looks good. For the Byzantine lamellar, you might want to overlay some color or something.
Maybe try adding a bit of shading to it. Tone up the shadows and highlights between the lames and add highlights and shadows on the places where they normally appear on the armor (e.g. highlights on the shoulders, shadows on the lower body, etc.)
