[GDN] How will diplomatic options come into play in a multiplayer match and allow the players to wield power?

[AY] Again, that’s mostly undecided. We don’t want to force the players in any kind of rigid hierarchy, however we may add some tools to help players better organize themselves if they wish so.

Gee, I wonder where Armagan saw that kind of stuff?

Why isnt any of this told to the community by Armagan? Seems like we are being pushed aside now.

I don't think so, for one thing if you read the article he hasn't much to say on the questions. Everything's in early development right now and it's premature for us to be hearing a lot about this expansion.

Ahh!  Change my vote!

.. Don't need it, but I definitely want it.  Also, I do think it's a good idea business wise.  It will attract a lot more players than just SP alone.

Oh.. Really great news.. Once I've said when 0.6xx was released(or near that date), that if M&B becomes available playing on the internet... It will be my best game played ever.. So... I'm waiting.

Sry 4 my bad english.. )

What would be great... would be the recreation (re-creation) of some medieval battles.  You'd have a battle of 100 AI vs 100 AI, with scripted formation to go a certain way (but AI also able to improvise, so it's not so scripted every time).  And players can jump in as combattants of either side.

Another thing that would be great, would be like in CS when a player buys nothing (only the sidearm) and would need to capture a main weapon from a guy from either team.  So perhaps in the midst of a medieval battle, the players spawn with nothing but a cane, and maybe the 14 throwing knives, and they have to pick up from the fallen.    That would be very exciting.

Another mode could be similar to the previous one, except the player fight as the farmers defending their village from bandits or looters.  And all you have are cereal-scythe and stones to start with.  You have to capture bandit weapons.  And there is no knight units riding to the rescue.

Another mode could be like Splinter Cell in the streets of a medieval city.  One side are the armed people in that city, the other side have to do some kind of objective, but they are also disguised as the townspeople.  A bit like the multiplayer of Splinter Cell, except there are other people in the streets.  So, the armed people have a limit of civilian casualties.  The other side have a time limit.  And it could be objectives in stages, like the dod_charlie and dod_zalec maps of the original dayofdefeat.

Another mode could be like the rescue of a princess from a castle or something.  The princess could either be an AI NPC, like in CS or playable character, like in America's Army.  And the princess would start out with nothing.  If she dies, the game is lost for the rescue side.

Another mode could be breaking out of a fortress.  The players would all start out like the POW in America's Army, and they have to fight the entire castle garrison starting with nothing.  And the more difficult the mode, the higher tiered the troops would be.

An even greater battle would be breaking out of an entire city (like Tihr, Wercheg, etc.)

Another fun mode: medieval Grand Prix.  Everyone starts out on a horse.  This would be either players-only, or players with AIs.  Either way it'd be fun.  So everyone starts on a horse and it is not a circular course like Circus Maximus, it is a long road like Motorcross, like the part of the Training Camp that trains the throwing.  There will be obstacles that will need the horse-jump to leap over.    In addition, everyone starts off with the 14 throwing knives, but no other weapons, or it'd be too easy.    All along the way, there will be some weapons randomly spawned off the road.  It takes time to ride to them and maybe there is some special action required to get them as well (but not the cryptography of Splinter Cell III and IV).  So people can try to get other people off their horse this way.    And the first to finish the obstacle course (and survive) wins.

Another fun mode: hunting like in Oregon Trail, except it's 3-D with live animals and birds.  However, I am currently at a loss of thinking of a multiplayer application of it.  Maybe you have to catch elephants or rhinoceros with ropes, so you have to do it in unison with at least one other player, by riding round them like the Snowspeeders on Hoth around the AT-AT.

Another fun mode: I actually never played Portal, nor even the demo (is there a demo?), but I think it has to do with opening portals to get to places.  Players spawn in a world of maze and moving stone slabs and columns, a bit like Prince of Persia.  Players have bow+arrow + javelins.  And they have to hit certain points on the walls or stones or columns to make some of them move, and thus get to places.

Another mode could be the Viking mode.  Players spawn in a drakkar, and they have to row the ship like how they swing their arms.  And the ship is sinking, so they have row fast.  Or, maybe in coordination for maximum speed.  If the ship sinks before they get to shore, then they lose all their heavy equipment and get on shore with nothing.  If they manage to row the ship on shore in time, they land and raid some place.  Either way, after some time, mounted reinforcement would come to fight the Vikings.

I wouldn't say so. Big A is busy, and he does post here. Be glad of what you get.

I'd really love to see how you recreate battles with hundreds of soldiers when you only have a limite of 32.

Yeah, because it makes so much sense to take nothing but a stick to battle and getting assraped by someone who already has a real weapon is so much fun.

Hey  Look like we're gonna get amazing addition to the favourite game! Looked like bullsh** to me, but it's real! Oh my... Can't wait to get it.  There is an interview with some developer or some at Paradox itself. Oh.. Won't post it here in complete (it's large enough hehe) but here are some details:
[GDN] Why wasn’t multiplayer included in the original Mount & Blade?
How was the decision to do a multiplayer expansion arrived at for Mount & Blade?

[AY] Players had been requesting Multiplayer functionality since the time we had released our first beta version. However, at the time, our primary focus was the single player gameplay
<...>
[GDN] What quarter can we expect to see the expansion released?

[AY] We do not have an ETA yet. We want to work on the expansion until we feel it is ready.
And so on  Looks worth reading
Huh, totally forgot about the sourse, so that you won't treat me like a mad-man  it was located at http://www.gamersdailynews.com/article-1776-Exclusive-Mount--Blade-Multiplayer-Interview-with-Armagan-Yavuz.html

Cool interview, nice to hear some more info about the expansion.

It says 32 plus bots, not a limit of 32 total so I think it would be possible.

Multiplayer was also something we were very interested in, since we wanted to play against each other ourselves
So who knows, we might meet big A on a server sometime

1000 Denars to the Calradian who brings me Hippotoxotai head on a pike.
On another note... ( )

Multiplayer?
<_<
>_>
Hooray!!! It's back to beta life!
Eventually.

I'm just want to settle some scores with a few forumites.
And blame my failure on lag.

100th vote for "Need It" XD
Idk if my parents will even let me get it but **** I'm getting it no matter what.
I think that people that played since beta deserve to get it for free xD

This is Mount&Blade, not CounterStrike mixed with Assassin's Creed here buddy, so calm your expectations and leave your erections for women.

Dude yeah and this one could kind of be like Indiana Jones mixed with an enhanced version of the Star Wars mod. You could also like **** a zebra and your babies could become like super horses and you could ride them. Then you could ride bulls and whoever holds on the longest to the vibrating joystick as it starts to vibrate more and more wins.

Dude yeah and another mode could be in the night like in viking mode everyone goes down to the lower levels of the ship and has a massive orgie and the Nords could all play "Who's In My Mouth?"

No what would be great is if you fell off a cliff hit whatever brains you had on a rock and died. That would like be awesome and stuff

This'd rocked. I've watched the recreation of several mediaval combats w. armor and weapons through television, now w. M&B, those guys'd want to host it on the Internet, may Armagan need to incorporate a video recording soft as well

More worried about cheating bastards to be honest... javelin headshots anyone?

Considering that since the projectiles take a while to reach the target and that a target can quickly move out of the way if far enough and that board shield practically make you arrow proof in the front, target hacking shouldn't be a big concern. Stat hacking though is much easier, I would think.

No, it says 32 players or bots. It makes no difference if it's a player or a bot, the data still has to go through the network. Having hundreds of characters would be totally unplayable even on a LAN, let alone online.

@krik killer and GodsHand:

Although his proposals aren't the best ( ) I don't think that this gives you the right of messing him up this way. I'm no mod or something like that, and I don't want to be, but as much as I don't like reading bull**** I don't like reading flame posts. This is probably the most unfriendly forum I ever met, and I am active in some real badass-forums

I don't try to get off with you, just wanted to mention. Don't mess up the forum for the best game ever. It's a pitty!

@Hippotoxotai: I have to admit that they are right anyway: This aren't really good ideas. In fact they don't even suit as average ideas...

----------------------

I would like to have some "Black Knight"-game type ( as already mentioned ): one player gets superior quipment, stats and horse, and all the other players have to kill him, as well as he has to kill them. When he gets killed the player who slayed him becomes the black knight, and has to kill as many opponents as he can. After time runs out the player with the most frags wins (fragging black knight doesn't count). Of course this game type needs constant player respawn.

I could imagine this works best in a bigger village, with quite a couple of houses but enough space between them for decent horse fights. So that some careless players can "get lost" and be hunted down by the black knight. The other players would be forced to keep together to survive and to have a chance against the knight.

At the beggining of the round all player spawn as average fighters, and have to kill each other. The first player who manages to kill an opponent becomes black knight.

Edit: Yes, okay, I admit, I stole it from "ALiens vs. Predator 2"

Edit2: To prevent the Black Knight of killing an opponent and then runnig from each fight to win the round with one frag you can implement a timer which gets reset after each frags. If the timer runs out black knight disappears and "everybody vs. everybody" starts again to determine the new one.

You like the idea?
