Looking at Vladian rooster right now and all the HVY infantry guys have now an Sword instead, Shield, heavy armor and an spear while my spearmen have no shield and are easier wasted on the battlefield if not careful.

So what is the logic behind this ? And also shall everyone have spears to so Cav units seems weak for some strange reason i wonder why ?
Sure the pikemen might have an better Pike i guess but does that really matter in the bigger scheme of things

My point is that you equipped almost every infantry tier with spears heck even in Battania
I know that those are two hander special units and such which "breaks armor" and deals damage as glass canons But those are also excellent anti cav units...But still the whole infantry being anti cav is just well....how to put it....stupid

The Vlandian Pikemen are the only troops using a pike. The pike is longer than the spears and in multi player it can be braced. I think the intention is to enable bracing in single player at a later time, making the pikeman a very interesting and unique unit. IMHO the differentiation between the tier five infantry units could be a little bit higher, currently there is not really a reason to pick Oathsworn over Wildlings. But I am content to await the future changes.

They are both good at their trades but yeah i get your point since they are pretty similar now except Wildlings have more throwing weapons if i remember them correct and they havnt been changed to much

Yes, they added a spear to the Wildlings and removed a pack of throwing spears. This way there is even less reason to pick Oathsworn.

I like the current diversity of the Sturgian troops. You get a spear unit, a heavy skirmisher, and a shock troop. There is no weapon type overlapping and each troop has its own niche. I would also propose to drive this point further for example for the Vlandians. Remove the spear from the Sergeants. Thus you would need the pikemen to counter cavalry. This can not be applied to all troop trees, as only the Vlandian and the Sturgian tree is infantry heavy. But the Battanian troops should be changed accordingly. In my opinion the Khuzait and Aserai troop trees are alright as they are, same as the Empire troop tree.

i tried to find a niche for pikemans, but i couldn't. i assigned them to a group, lined them up behind xbow guys aaaaand... they just stood with their swords drawn. when enemy cav charged, they just behave like regular infantry.
i think there is some issue with ai behavior because voulgiers are trying to use their two-handers instead of their polearms, everytime i look at them.

+1 can agree, some of them switch the weapon but these are 2 or 7 of 20

nps but i can agree that AI needs some more tweaks here and there especially tactics..:But its getting better for every patch i can see that they are working on it and sometimes they even surprise me even if it still has flauds ofc

IMHO this is the main point that requires improvement: the AI needs some improvements. If the spears would be used correctly and maybe more intelligent weapon switching would help a lot.

Although this will only help in the simulated battles not the auto calculation. This is in another state and also requires some work.

Enough looters with pitch forks are really dangerous to lonely banner knights
yeah no... so i had an army 189 soldiers strong with a regiment of 40 sharpshooters. 7 looters killed 2 banner knights in auto calc >_>
lot of peasants
i'm missing that quest from Warband about taxes... hitting peasants with quarterstaff brings so much satisfaction.

May be the wrong thread but always wanted to express that guys without shields need to crouch and maybe do small evasive moves when standing in formation under archer fire. What human would just stand there letting arrows kill everyone around him without at least slightly adjusting?

Yep - the mechanism will be somewhat like the couched lance.

Battanian Oathsworn do have one advantage - they can dismount enemy mounts because their weapon has the spear guard for it (you can craft a weapon that does this too).

Yes - they should dodge incoming archer fire like the player does.

every soldier before ww2?
Really? Every soldier before ww2 had no idea how to slighty bend the knee and hips to crouch when a volley of arrows were coming at them. Wow. We really have progressed as a species

Really?
the mindset was different. basically, if the employer ever asked you a question "where do you see yourself in the next 3 years?" or a similar question i struggle to translate to english. that is a legacy of ww2 when command realized that creative soldiers, soldiers with initiative are better than soldiers who function like automatons.

Cant say as i wasnt there but id bet a dollar that even primitive cavemen charging a rival tribe hurling slings and stones would use a crouched running approach. You see keeping your body size smaller as projectiles is incoming to deliver a smaller target area is something even animals understand.

We already have an AI that doesnt understand cover -another very basic defensive premise of even animals -but at least evasive type animations including crouch which is already ingame -would add but an element of believability as well as troop survival

do not compare a mob with an army. self-preservation is nice and all, but it gets discarded when you need to hold the line and maintain cohesion.
