Wasn't a fan of EQ back in its day, but this new one looks mildly interesting.
Features revealed so far suggest that it could end up being something like Minecraft that doesn't look like ****.
I'm also intrigued by multiclassing options. Always hated rigid class system in MMOs.

They had a list that big for PS2 and it worked, interested to see how this turned out.

It also seems to be suffering from gw2 envy....Expanding on their skills attached to weapons. Still it has my ears perked up, voxel destruction is always a good thing.

The best part of the announcement was when they had this whole story that "you've been playing d&d for the past 30 years now, it's time for a change!" WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE IT. Our new system... called...... MULTICLASSING!!! *pause* ... *Awkward groans from audience of fanboys*. You know it is bad when your fan club is like 'wtf'.  Anyway yeah, voxel thing is where it is at, but the jump puzzels, art direction (even the slides took GW2 art style) and even the animations (this is our sprint!! YEAH *clap*) Totally a char run animation.  But they have voxels, so... we'll see.

Oh it's free to play.

Guess I'll give it a shot then. If the world isn't flattened by the people who come before me.

This - my parents bought me a version Everquest as a kid for Christmas, not knowing you had to subscribe. I was so devastated when I found out and they told me I couldn't play. Maybe now I'll be able to get into it.

Damn that sucks. Eq had its problems but there will never be another game like it ever again, I don't think most people would tolerate the mechanics now, I wouldn't, but they sure gave you some memories and immersion. Also the graphics at the time were jaw dropping, a modern mmo won't really be able to recreate that experience.

You should give your parents a light slap on the cheek for robbing you of the chance to ignore the real world for several years

Looks like they're robbing GW2's ideas. Not bad, I suppose. The "completely new system for classes" (multi-classing) was really, really retarded though. If they'd been playing D&D for ages, then how come they never realised that has dual-classing?

I mean, dual-classing is potentially really cool, it's just not 'new' in any way. I think it's a shame Guild Wars 2 didn't take that from Guild Wars 1, the dual-classing system was so much fun.

The rest of that showcase was pretty meh as well. The thing I liked best were the emotes/facial features, but that's not really a big part of any MMO.

I don't think it's dual-classing, could be something more similar to a hybrid between FFXIV's path system and TSW's card system.

My ass is the classiest of news sources.

The voxel part of their engine is based on Voxel Farm. That alone makes me quite excited for this.

http://procworld.blogspot.com

Was out sick the last two days from work and spent that time reading through every single post on that site, my jaw was on the floor, that guy is pretty awesome. Not only was he the dude behind starpeace, but he basically coded up that engine in his free time after work, ridiculous honestly. Really amazing **** in his engine...the way it is laid out is that the planetside 2 Forgelight Engine is rendering, and voxel farm is a tool feeding into it.

I think that engine is quite the thing and great things can be done with it. About the rest of it, not sure I like the art direction and classes and whatever else, but at the very least playing with voxel farm is going to be worth it.

Yep, Starforge uses it for terrain as well and TUG, the "academic" sandbox RPG licensed it too.

(both games I pledged to without knowing they licensed it  It's that cool.)
